We're all professional adults here and I'd like to think we all know racism is wrong. The level of respect among people here I've seen so far has been amazing for an anonymous internet forum so I don't think we need threads telling us to stop hating Asians or any other race.ย

Agreed.

I appreciate and respect the message but unless thereโ€™s somekind of tie-in with how race plays into perceptions internally and externally in selling environments, I donโ€™t feel like itโ€™s appropriate to make Public Service Announcement style posts highlighting social issues.

We're on the same page. I'm all for the odd off topic threadย that might be entertaining/helpful to others, but there are already so many places to discuss social and political issues. Would be nice to have a place relativelyย  free of that... I think we all find those topics can get heated, stressful, and draining.ย

You may work in a well balanced and race representative company. Most don't.ย Race plays into who is hired. Discrimination happens. And, race plays into how buyers treat their sellers.ย

Are you suggesting that racism bias isn't impacting hiring? Depending on your state, do you feel your company has a representative? In 30+ years of working in the software industry, in the North East, I've worked with maybe 3 or 4 Asian-Americans among 1000s of co-workers.ย

Hence my burn out on LI. You can turn off certain posts popping up on your thread but somehow they come back...I've only been in the War Room for a few days and have been happy with it being mostly current event and politic free. I'm not on social media other than LI but I feel like there's no more wick left to burn.ย

Exactly. Literally everything on this page has been positive. Everyone is anonymous and treating each other with respect. Thereโ€™s no reason to come in here and purposely try and stir up a race debate. Take that to Facebook.ย

Maybe you're right -but knowing racism is wrong and saying something to the racist when you see and hear it is different.ย ย

Im going to copy-paste a small piece of an internal message (that was much larger and emotional) from our COO, who is Asian, because I think it should be said where Bravado stands on this:

"Unequivocally, Bravado stands with the AAPI community and everyone that has been directly touched by the recent violence and hate crimes. Bravadoโ€™s mission to empower minorities in sales has remained steadfast. Our particular contribution to this fight comes in the form of creating a diverse and inclusive world in sales, where anyone, no matter race, ethnicity, religion, or gender, can have the opportunity to earn a 6-figure income without a college degree. Championing diversity will always be a cornerstone of Bravadoโ€™s mission."ย

Our COO is Asian. So is our Head of Product. So is our ops manager and product manager. In fact, at any given moment, I am the only white dude in the room/on the call. It's the most diverse company I've worked for and it's fucking awesome.ย

I was picking up on the this sentence, and suggesting that race ties into perceptions internally.

Actually, you accused me of suggesting that race isn't a factor in hiring decisions which I clearly didn't do so no, that's not exactly what you were doing and I don't appreciate it.

"Are you suggesting that racism bias isn't impacting hiring?"

No... no one is suggesting that it isn't impacting hiring. And it's not cool of you to try and infer that I was suggesting this...ย

If that's something you'd like to discuss, way more receptive to that without the accusations and lecturing.ย

The sequence of replies is being lost, so sorry for the repeat of an earlier message, which may - or may not - have already been seen.ย

I was picking up on this sentence, and suggesting that race ties into perceptions internally at companies.

"...but unless thereโ€™s somekind of tie-in with how race plays into perceptions internally and externally in selling environments..."

I was observing that in years of working in tech companies in the North East, I've very rarely seen any Asian Americans working in these companies -- and certainly not in proportion to the number of Asian American's in my state (according to the Wiki-page).ย

Sorry if my turn of phrase sounds like lecturing to you. That is not my intent.

Asian guy here wondering what the point of this post is tbh. I loathe the virtue signaling thatโ€™s been so commonplace on LinkedIn. War Room seems to be the one place where I donโ€™t see that stuff. Would hate to see this platform devolve into that.
