Ask for quarterly reviews?

Started a new AE job about 6 months ago (Broadcast/Digital media). Came from an environment (different media company) where I was constantly micro-managed and held to specific KPIs. My current role has zero oversight more or less. I do like having my freedom and I am doing well...but I miss having some sorta check in with my manager to make sure I am meeting/exceeding expectations.

Am I a psycho for wanting some quarterly reviews?

Schedule time on your manager's calendar and have this discussion.

That's what I was leaning towards...hopefully doing as well as I think

I have weekly 1:1s with my manager and its not micro-managing in any way. It's very helpful for me.

I had weekly ones at my previous position and that was fine. Sometimes productive, sometimes not. Its just weird to go from that to nothing.

I go into it with an agenda so every meeting is productive for me. I'm still new as an AE but I would imagine once I'm more seasoned I would want at least biweekly check-ins. It helps to have other's inputs on my process and have fresh eyes on ways I can move the sale along.

Not at all. Feedback is important, I’d talk to your manager for sure.

I find my 1:1s to be extremely beneficial for myself. I have an absolutely wonderful manager who's a 20-year vet in our industry and is a great mentor. Very understanding, supportive, and also inspirational. Haven't ever had a boss like that before so I definitely find value in our meetings. I think the value totally depends on your boss' style though. My 1:1s in my last role had 0 value and basically went one of two ways; "nice work on hitting your numbers," or "why aren't you hitting your numbers?"

Big fan of well run 1 2 1's - coming with a list of points or queries. Checking in on priorites. Fielding some probing questions from the manny. All super helpful.

Treat them as your own session, you can make as much of them as you want, so use them wisely!

Agenda is huge! you should have no issues asking for a weekly or bi weekly 1-1's. Thats really normal and if you come with a game plan of what you want covered they will always be productive.

I would at least have 1 on 1's with your manager. That way you have visibility into what they are expecting/see where you are in terms of those expectations.

For me personally, I like to meet at least once a month with my direct manager. A lot can happen in 3 months and during that time, they could be unhappy with your work and you could think you are over exceeding.

I would approach it as "Hey Boss, I want to make sure we are lock in step with everything going on and that both of us are working towards the same goals, lets meet once an x (week, month, quarter) to ensure we are tracking towards our goals together."

Not a bad idea, but it just depends on what your normal weeks and feedback look like. If you're not getting the feedback you want often enough, then definitely schedule time to discuss it with him/her.
If you phrase it as "I want to make sure I do a good job so you look good as my manager" it should come off well.

Great mentality! I think its good that you have breathing room and all without being micromanage but asking for a review will show how much you care about the role, and maybe there's a tip or 2 that will help you get more better. Keep it up! ❤

I’ve been there, accountability to something other than yourself can be a great motivator. I also like talking through shit sometimes when I’m stuck. Being micro managed sucks, but being managed can be amazing

1 on 1 meetings are your time.  You should drive the agenda.  Ask about progress to goals, learning opportunities, expectations, whatever you want.

Don't, and I can't emphasize this enough, let your boss ask you about your pipeline.

I'm in the same boat.
My last company had us reporting KPIs daily, weekly, and monthly. My current role asks us to turn in a weekly forecast, but it's not what we are judged on.

I also miss the check-ins, because it was the only chance I had to get into the weeds on struggles and needs, rather than simply discussing how to win a specific deal.

I personally look forward to my weekely 1:1s. Its a time for me to brainstorm new tactics and ask for professional development feedback. Highly encourage you to pursue more frequent check-ins with your manager, especially since you are relatively new to the company.

Your manager will problably not mind having a check in with you. He/she problably is happy with your results and thus does not want to bother you.
