Asking for a new territory

Hey folks! I was promoted mid year this year from SMB to Mid Market AE and without getting into the nitty gritty details this means I got one of the leftover/bad territories.  My manager acknowledges my territory sucks and has given me a ton of slack despite poor attainment and Pipe Gen numbers.  I have a relatively small named account list to upsell/crosell a full suite of products into and am not permitted to prospect net new business as this is done by the new logo team.  I've done all the stuff I normally do to stay in management's good graces -- update SFDC, exceed pipe gen activity metrics, help out teammates, change my proposal decks to fit the specific preferences of this manager, etc.  In short -- I've done everything in my power to put myself in position to ask for a better territory as leadership begins 2022 planning.

For the managers in the WR -- when you and a rep are on the same page that they are doing all the right things and just not seeing the results, how do you prefer they ask for a better territory?  Ask directly? present a business case with data?  Not ask and trust you know what you're doing and will put the best reps in the best territory?  Thanks.

As a rep, I would always show my data (to justify my ask) followed by asking directly.

Ultimately, we all are with a common goal of making more money for the company and ourselves.

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
Data led approach seems wise here as @Diablo said. Hopefully, your Manny admitting the territory sucks will help your case

Thanks @Diablo that’s what I’m leaning toward. This is new territory to me as my previous manager preached that territories were more or less equitable and discouraged lobbying for changes.
(They definitely are not equitable).

Make sure you show you absolutely wrung out the shitty territory and got the most out of it. That way when you switch you can perform at the same level with a better territory.
