Asking for a secondment to another role?

Hi team,

BDR coming up on my second year with the current gig in December, Have consistently hit targets over the last 3 quarters and am the most senior BDR on my team.

Back in Feb I had a chat with the partner channels sales team about trying to join them, right now their team consists of people all with 10+ years experience in sales so it's a seniors only team, but there was the opportunity for a junior position to open up in August.

With the way that the market is running these days, I don't think that the spot will open up, i've been helping the partner channels team with training and enablement for the past few months helping them onboard and train new partners who sign up with us in my territory teaching them our outbound prospecting process.

I want to have a discussion with my manager where I ask for a change in Title, and secondment in roles and responsibilities, while still carrying my current quota. My pipeline is very healthy these days, it hitting monthly targets around half way through the months and am barely doing 35 hours a week so everything's pretty relaxing here.

Essentially I would still hit my targets, but also work as a junior on the partner channels team so I can have a title change, not too fussed about my salary as of yet as the work life balance and vesting shares is pretty great.

Has anyone else ever had a discussion like this before?

so this is unique. but i have been apart of an org where an SDR gets a promotion to a junior AE role where they have all the SDR responsibilities + AE responsibilities on small deals.

BUT this comes with a title change and a salary increase.

i would make the ask like you are saying. but suggest that after a certain time frame, you talk about a full title change and compensation increase. never offer to do more work for the same pay with no time limit on that.

^^ This. ^^
Squeaky wheel gets the oil; but also approach with a โ€œCould we develop a timeline?โ€
I make requests in this manner because it shows iโ€™m looking to be proactive and collaborative to reach my goal: โ€œiโ€™d like to be *here in xyz months* and *there in xyz months*.โ€

"could we develop a timeline?" is a GREAT question and I like the verbage here.

They will most likely say Yes.

then you need to follow up with: "what do you think the biggest factors in creating a timeline would be?"

You're going to tell your manager: this current position is too easy, so I want to take on another role (while staying in this one) with no increase in pay?

Huh?

Never really heard of this in the sales world.... Seems like a bit a strange thing and not sure how it'll go
