At what age is it internally inappropriate (or frowned upon) to have a roommate that is not your partner/kid?

Hate that I'm in the later half of my 20s and have been thinking about this often.. BUT we're in sales, hopefully making decent money...when should the roommate be ditched?

Screw that I miss having room mates. I wish I could have one right now. Was way easier than a wife and kids.

Nobody's business how you live your own life. I personally would rather chew rocks than ever to back to living with room mates, and would want to date someone who lives alone too because I don't want to deal with their room mates either. So basically if you're not me or dating me I couldn't care less how you live.

General rule is when it’s 1/4 your salary for your own place do it. If you like each other though and have your own space a roommate is kinda nice. The cap is probably ~35 though

Depends on where you live, in NYC/SF it’s quite common to have roommates, even in early 30s and making 150k/year. Even if you can afford it, what you get isn’t worth it.

Agree on this ^. Many folks rent out an additional bedroom --- they'll get a 6 bedroom house in Bay Area and rent out bedrooms. Other option is to pay between $2-5k for a 1-2 bedroom (depending on the size) and live alone.

Yeah that's up to you my friend, what are you comfortable with? I know some people that have had long-term roommates while working and figuring out what's next, I'm talking 5+ years after college together. If its someone you live well with, then screw it, do whatever you want. Now if you end up in a serious relationship, then you probably have to bring them into the decision making process, but until then, you do you.

Conflicted on this. One one hand rent is STUPID high anywhere you go and it helps to spread that out. That said seeing a 30+ year old on a video call having to tell his roommate to stfu because he’s in a business meeting is a little strange at best.

If your coworkers find out and care, throw the whole damn job away. That sounds like some high school level judgement that you don't need in your life.

BUT if you need a frame of reference, I have a few coworkers bordering on mid thirties who have roommates. Nobody cares.

I initially was going to comment agreeing with it being no ones business and who cares.. then I remembered I went out with a 34yr old that had a roommate and was kind of turned off by it.

I ditched the roommate a year after college graduation. I just couldn’t do it anymore.

This is a tough one. I'd put a specific number, but if I were to live in Manhattan, in the middle of Canary Wharf, or HK Islan, it would be financially sound to have roommates until I was comfortable allocating 20-25% of my salary into the rent (some say up 33%, but I want to keep it low). Do it until you shouldn't, regardless of age. How's your career growth and how much are those above you making? Do play your numbers and make a plan for it tho. I was in the same spot at your at that age.

I have a two-bedroom condo, I do NOT use the second bedroom so it is typically available on Airbnb - or for longer stays, I ditch the platform and do a 6 - 12 month contract. Discount applied if roommate provides addy or powder candy...

dude never, if I wasn't married with a child I would have a roommate and I'm almost 30.

Who doesn't want to live with their best friend?

Let's go the other route and start group homes for millennials so people stop giving a shit (btw this is already happening in development hubs for software and coin ops)

I would say anything after college or a few years after like 25/26. I’m in my 30’s and haven’t know anyone with a roommate for years.

This is weird, at my core I think it's not their business if it isn't impacting their business. At the same time, as a manager, I can see why that is an important dynamic to have an idea of.

That being said, I think many in management wouldn't know what to do with this information and instead would likely just think anything that happens with you two is some how related to your relationship.

How do you all handle a situation where a prospect has a contract approved and is ready for signature, but one of their family members just passed away? Want to be extremely sensitive to the situation...feel there's never a "right" time to reach out and never want to be salesy...
