B2B Marketer with 12yrs XP looking to transition into sales

Hey everyone!

I've been a fairly successful B2B marketer with 12 years of experience in SaaS & FinTech verticles (mid-market & enterprise). In all this time I've worked hand in hand with sales leaders and their teams on building pipelines, setting up and optimizing cold-outreach stacks, sales enablement, optimizing AOV, funnel conversion and closed-won rates, win/loss analysis (and the whole enchilada).

I've also had hands-on sales experience as a solo marketing agency owner and a FinTech founder.

I have my heart and mind set on building the next phase of my career in sales.

Being a sponge; I'm eager to soak up all your advice/guidance/suggestions on how I can position myself to convince a sales leader hiring for AE roles.

TIA!

Have you heard of the exciting world of SMB SDR roles?

I have! I worked very closely with the SMB-focused SDR team at Kaseya for their ITGlue and Connnectbooster products.

Any suggestions/reccomendations? :)

Understand you're taking a big step back going into sales since you'll have to start off as a bdr/sdr you may want to explore more sales type performance marketing roles as a happy medium before going whole hog on the career reset.

I can't imagine becoming an SDR after 12 years in B2B marketing... I don't think the pay or the day-to-day will be acceptable.

War Room Community Manager
Hey, welcome to the War Room. This is Gasty, the WR community Manager here.

Before I get to answer your question, just a couple of things I wanted to add.

Firstly great first post. However, this is an anonymous community with one of the best Sales folks out there. Their suggestions are pure gold. Everyone speaks from vast experience.

Going anonymous will help you get the most out of this community, if you don't wish to, then that's fine as well.

Have you checked out the commission store out yet? If not, I highly recommend it. Earning commission points is fairly easy. upvotes get you points. So keep posting, engaging, commenting to earn more.

While the first post is good, I'd suggest check a few other posts out that'll give you more idea about how the ball rolls here.

We also have some weekly activities which are planned like leaderboard, who's hiring, friday fun, etc.

Lastly, this is not LinkedIn, you can go as detailed as you want. You need to provide value to be valued.

Now coming back to your question,
SDR is a great way to get started. Do not consider SDR as an entry level job, it'll teach you all about business. Since you're not been in closing roles at a Sales team, I 'd say it may be a little difficult to get an AE role directly. With luck, sure! but I think starting from SDR and quickly growing is something that'll help you in the future.

Welcome, once again.

Iโ€™ve been selling for 5+ years. Have been in selling SAAS for the last year or so. Looking for a individual sales coach to help with the transition. I see a lot of sales academy that I can buy but Iโ€™m looking for 1:1 sales coaching. Anyone have any recommendations?
