Not a felon but large companies do background checks.

The company I work for now isn't large, and it was required.ย  ย It had been so long since I've had to go through this, I have moved (YEARS ago) and cannot find my diploma, and had to request the virtual acknowledgement from my university.ย  That was the hardest thing to track down during the pandemic - the school was closed and admins were remote!

The Saas startups and scaleups that I've worked at haven't checked. Several of my coworkers had been arrested before

Even if they say they are processing a background check is that just a bluff to weed out? ๐Ÿ‘€

All the background checks I've done share their results with you via a 3rd party website. So I got the impression they weren't bluffing.

However, as @Rallierย noted some smaller companies won't require it.ย

The difference between felons and I is that Iโ€™ve never been caught. Real gs move in silence like lasagna.ย

Haven't seen it at my last couple of gigs.

My partner however works for a massive legacy type corporation and she had to go through levels, including providing transcripts for her degree stamped from the university...

So, you're a felon. Good to know.

If you were forthright with your hypothetical status, and they continued on in the process with you (and HR knew), then the result should not surprise anyone.

Not hypothetical. no Iโ€™m not a felon. Jut donโ€™t have experience. Actually asking for a buddy of mine whose org is in the WR buddy

Just jabbing at ya!

But my second point is what my serious advice is. Be forthright early on in the process, and if all teams are aware and positive on the status, then the results won't surprise anyone.

depends on how serious the crime was that comes up in the background check but I don't believe it's a huge deal. you can also proactively bring it up. My company did decide not to move forward with a BDR candidate one time because something came up on their background checkย

I would run a background check.ย  I'd also have a hard time hiring a felon that didn't admit it on the application.ย  Nothing worse than a lying felon...

Iโ€™m my experience that signals impending failure. Hope this isnโ€™t true for your org!

Have to pass a background check and we pull a credit report.

I do think it depends on the felony as well. I think that comes into play

A lot of tech companies are not really worried about BG anymore. They know if they were assholes about it they'd loose qualified applicants. Plus the job market is crazy right now and most companies cannot offer to be super picky.ย
