Employment contract? Yes
Sales contract? No

Regarding the job, I got a better offer at a more stable company, I just told them I think this other offer is better for me at this time. The one I turned down then offered a big increase to their salary offer but to me that was just a red flag.

Years later I'm happy to say I made the right call.

Spot on with that red flag. While some may find that flattering and think "these people really want me and that is why they are offering a larger base" I always think "Why the F*** didn't they just offer me that up front and what are they hiding from me?"

Yup, showed a low-ball offer first and made me know I would likely never get a raise going forward if I stayed. no thanks.

Thanks for the response!

Were there any repercussions for you from backing out of the contract?

Yes, they lost a killer sales guy lol.

No, no repercussions. It is what it is and if they can't accept that then they were not going to be a good workplace anyways.

Just be upfront and honest about it early, sometimes it can screw with headcount KPI and bake the hiring manager a bit grumpy. But No one wants a salesperson who don’t want to be there. I’ve seen some “you will regret this” chest pumping, but good salesppl always gets hired.

I've never done this myself, but I've seen tons of other people do it. Always do what's best for yourself

Appreciate the response, I figured more people must do this all the time, but hoping that it doesn't come back to bite me.

I know someone who did this. No repercussions from the company he walked away from except that he will never get another offer from them again.

So if he wants to move to his current company's biggest competitor (which is beginning to eat their lunch), he's screwed.

Tell them the truth.

Worst case scenario: They say it's unfortunate.
Best case scenario: They offer you a better package.

I mean, companies are rescinding offers made to candidates in their best interest so why would you not do the same thing? Better opportunity for you

The company that I was leaving just went through an acquisition and it was a bit messy. Things have greatly improved and they're giving. me a much better offer.

Also, Kyrgios or Djokovic?

wow! well that is a unique situation. glad to hear things are improving!

and man that is a hard question.....Kyrgios has the ability to beat anyone on any given day. I always wondered if he had the ability to do it consistently at a major.

So now that he is in the final, i give him a REALLY good shot.
idk if he will pull it off but im pulling for him for SURE.

I find Kyrgios gets frustrated when he doesn't have easy holds, so we'll see how he does vs the best returner in the game. I think Djokovic took Corrie to break point in 75% of his games in the 2-4 sets. So will be an interesting and exciting match!

Thanks for the good wishes, appreciate the response!

I did this.

I was slated to start on a Wednesday but received a better offer the weekend before. I just sent them back the laptop and moved on.

Note: you are basically burning a bridge so make sure it’s the right decision

I did this. After signing the contract there were a load of red flags which I couldn’t ignore, I ended up staying at my current company. I was just honest about the reasons, the recruiter was a little hacked off but she got it. I was worried about legal repercussions as I’d signed, but had no issues.

I signed an offer once thinking I wasn’t going to get the competing offer I was looking for. Less than 8 hours later the competing offer came in. I contacted the recruiter and would have been manager, and essentially said I wanted to rescind my acceptance. They seemed to be pretty cool about it honestly. I figured they hadn’t even processed my offer/acceptance at that point because they told me it was okay and to reach out if I ever wanted to apply again

My girlfriend just did this - wasn’t comfortable with the sharky nature of the company when she was interviewing so ended up applying for a different role at another company.

The first company understood - but they have a high turnover rate so I don’t think they cared too much. I think they’d probably hire her again if they thought she’d smash their quotas

Done this twice. It’s normal. Just be professional about it and maybe apologetic

Copy pasting my note here haha;

I have reconsidered joining COMPANY, and I must retract my acceptance.

I appreciate all of the team's guidance throughout the interview process, and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience my decision may cause.

This was a very difficult decision, but I received an offer that aligns better with my long-term career goals.

Again, I'd like to thank you and the team for a great interview experience & offer. I wish the COMPANY team all the success.

I was offered a sdr management position and verbaly accepted as the HM wanted to know within 24 hours. After accepting, i learned that the role was going to be in person and I was required to stay for 2 years even though that wasn't in the contract. I backed out the next day as it didnt feel right and OTE was below market i felt.

I was recently in the market for a new job and had several offers on the table. I accepted one tentatively as a backup in the off chance I didn't land the one I really liked.

I accepted the backup role 06/20 and the start date wasnt until 07/18 so I had plenty of lead time to find something else - the backup role wasn't bad - it was being an AE for a "stealth startup" with a decent comp package and work I would've enjoyed - but they had a questionable track record and company culture with some articles even warranting people going under cover lmaooo.

Once I accepted the role I did not hear a thing from the company so I took that as another sign... I eventually landed the role I wanted and signed with them on the 07/11 and reached out to the internal recruiter at the backup and told them I had to withdraw - they never got back to me until I pinged them 2 more times and finally accepted my withdrawal the Friday before I was supposed to start that Monday lol.

Lots of signs not to take the role and glad i withdrew - they didn't give me any issues with my withdrawal and I never heard from them again...
