Bad company/product, how to proceed?

I recently joined a mid/late stage startup about 6 months ago. I got let go from my other company and was moving to a VHCOL city and had to find a job asap.

When I was interviewing, the sales leadership team was very new and product was pretty good. I really liked the leadership team and my ICP.

Now it's been some time and... no one's hitting quota. Not even close – the product is a data product which works for certain clientele, but not everything. Other AE's haven't been closing many deals and we're at 10% of our number.

Turns out I am lukewarm selling to my ICP – they're very frugal and resistant to change. Also affected heavily by economic headwinds significantly. This, in turn, is affecting my paycheck. I'll be lucky if I clear $100k with 90% of that being my base...

So as a result, I'm considering looking elsewhere. With the economic headwinds and tech sales folk getting laid off, I'm getting the heebie-jeebies.

If you were me, how would you proceed?

I like to do this maneuver called "don't look back".

It can be a little tricky, but once you are able to do it, it gets easy to maintain.

First, you need to get a box. This box will go with you to your job and is very important. Take the box to your desk, then place all of your valuables into the box neatly if you care to.

Once your box is packed, turn and look for an exit. Now this exit can be the same one you have been using during your tenure to leave for lunch, appts, or to go home at the end of the day. Proceed to said exit with box of valuables... The trick here is to avoid eye contact with Janet or whoever is nosey, and make your way out of the building and to your car to safely drive off..... and don't look back.

TLDR: This situation is bullshit, just find something and ditch it fast. Also, for those that skipped to this point, don't be a little B and just read it. You're Welcome.

hahahahha this is exactly what I needed to hear. I know I have to jump, but nervous about having 3 jobs in 2022 so wanted at least 9 months of tenure at this current company.

Start looking, but you don’t have to be hasty. Find something you like before you give notice.

Sorry this particular job has been such a let down.

Get out of that place but get something before you move out. Looks like product market fit is an issue and the product/marketing teams have to do a lot of hard work here followed by a good GTM strategy.

Not worried about getting let go tbh. It's more of do I stay complacent here for a reasonably decent base and some commission or roll the dice at a different company. Don't want to lose too much base.
