Bartering to cover some commission?

have you guys ever taking a barter in lieu of some of your commission? I'm currently chasing a motorcycle company, and would love to get one of their bikes at a discount. Just curious what your personal/company policy is on this.

You mean like “I buy your bike if you sign the deal” type of thing? Super illegal in the US and instant fire. I would avoid any and all quid pro quo conversations.

Most likely very illegal.  Looking into BigMeech's comment about quid pro quo...

No, more like sign the deal and we discount the onboarding if you give me a bike. All documented in the agreement, and declared on taxes.

In the US that’s considered a “quid pro quo” agreement and is both fireable and illegal. I’d avoid that personally.

I wouldn't do this. Even if it's not illegal where you are it feels wrong. Stay in the light. 😏

I know in the past, the company has traded the onboarding fee for stock in the client business… It was a start up. Seems to have worked out pretty well for the owners.

Generally, if you have to ask, it’s probably not OK…

I would not bring this up to leadership.

Even if the CEO has done similar in the past?

I know our company has like “preferred supplier” status at clients and we get employee discounts essentially. I don’t think anyone uses them at all.

Interesting. I’ll have to look into that.

Ugh… I dunno. The whole thing screams scandal to me. But, I’m also VERY conservative in situations like this…

Would not do it straight away. Wait some months then buy it.
