Why would they hire a BDR team in Germany if the US is the primary market? This makes no sense.

I don't even know if there is a way to overcome this

Yeah, either they get put on PIPs one by one and get replaced by US folks, or they just do a massive layoff.

Sounds like a bigger pain in the ass than it needs to be. Why does your company do it like that?

Definitely a pain in the ass. I think at first it was to save money on compensation. But now it is a logistical nightmare and these BDRs don't really have career paths.

Weird. Doesn't Germany have a higher min wage/COL compared to most states?ย

Anyway, not really sure if there's a way to fix this. My suggestion is get rid of the German team and hire US based BDRs.

I'm not sure about the cost of living and minimum wage thing. I found this website that does a US vs German comparison though, not sure how credible it is: https://livingcost.org/cost/germany/united-states#:~:text=Prices%20in%20Germany%20vs%20the%20United%20States%20%2D%20Cost%20of%20Living%20Comparison&text=The%20average%20cost%20of%20living,expensive%20countries%20in%20the%20world.

I know that there are also heavy laws to protect workers. (i.e. it takes longer to fire people, which only compounds this problem.)ย

I've worked with international sales support teams, but they always worked US hours so it minimized the problem. Still had to deal with the cultural or language barriers, but at least they were online

True. Another issue we are having is none of the German based BDRs pick up the phone and make phone calls.

Yeah sounds like you've got some major problems there in that case.ย

I'm an SDR and my manager is in the UK. We usually have a good 3 to 5 hours a day that our working time co-aligns.

Yeah, it is certainly more feasible if you are on the east coast of the US. If you are in California being supported by someone in Europe, you might have 1-2 hours of synchronous communication.
