BDR Struggles

Just started a new BDR role, and would love to hear any tips/strats from those of you that have been a SDR/BDR in the last year or two. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Remember when you spent 2 years grinding on that video game? It’s basically the same except they’re paying you.

Best of luck to you! Great advice on here, the only thing I'd add is to see if you can shadow both some of the BDRs who have been there for a while and some of the AEs as well, I would do that. Having some good examples from your peers as well as what happens next (the AEs) should give you some confidence and also hear what's working in the messaging of others.

All my tips for you:
- Learn to write good mails => Check out Will Allred
- Don‘t be afraid of cold calling => booked most meetings via cold calling
- Don‘t take it personal => sales is crazy and there are lots ups and downs sometimes you win and sometimes you lose focus on the process and improving the rest will follow
- Block your calendar with specific slots to structure your day
- Talk to peers and network to share knowledge and get your name out there for future gigs
- Be honest and direct with your supervisor to set expectations early for both parties and establish a career plan
- Listen more and talk less on the phone or while talking to a client
- Be human and try to be creative (video prospecting worked well for me or sending written letters etc.)
- A\B test all the time to perfect your cadences and get good

Those are some of the things, reach out if you need to know more :)

SDR
Started my SDR role in May;

- When you know your metrics, make that your minimum
- Reach out to AEs (when you feel comfortable enough) you work with on what you can do differently to improve how you qualify prospects
- Ask AEs what kind of accounts they like to work with and vet those into your pipeline
- Strategize with your SDR peers on ways you can all hit quota/target together
- Do 1:1s with AEs you find you have a similar approach to and/or SDRs who are killing it that month; take what practices you can from them and make it your own
- Keep your pipeline clean!
- If you find yourself in a slump (no appts, no live transfers, nothing coming through for you), reevaluate on what you are doing and where you can shake things up to change that *best to do this early in the month*
- If you are in a slump, and you've tried to readjust, but nothing is helping. Make sure your output is there.

Hope this has helped! Good luck and you got this!

Don't take rejection personally, and focus on the process - not the outcome.

If you keep doing your job right the results will come.

Congrats !! I think I’ve found that there is power in numbers. Really be thoughtful when prospecting, so you’re not wasting your time talking to people you probably could have unqualified before they even got to your call log. The best advice someone ever gave me was “every day is a preparation for the event that will change your life”…. That being said, every failure, bad phone call, prospect cursing you out, etc is just a prep for that perfect prospect who will take what you’re selling. Just BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Connect with the top BDRs and replicate what they are doing. Ask for their messaging and scripts. Hit the phones hard. Everyone says they don't work anymore, but the only time phones don't work is when you stop calling. Keep good analytics and seek to improve on them. And lastly, instead of targeting call numbers, target productive conversations. if you have 5 productive conversations each day, I would bet that you'll hit or get damn close to quota. if you want to earn more, increase it to 6 conversations each day. that's an extra 20 conversations each month.
