Bro I have been there. I'm in my sixth role since 2019. Bounced around failed series A and seed startups. Finally feel like I've landed at a good place and I'm really excelling in the role.

Keep at it. I know how discouraging it can be. I once considered becoming a truck driver during the depths of covid because the job market was such shit.

I am really sorry to hear it. This is a tough time around the holidays. Hearing about that random 2nd cousin who is a doctor or lawyer and you still struggling to find your groove.

You aren’t alone it’s a thing I struggle with at times.

It’s a cliche but sales is a roller coaster but it’s true.

Wait i thought you had an AE role? or was the job you quit?

its totally normal to have concerns about your career path. i believe having these concerns is what can drive you forward.

just remember all that you have accomplished up to this point, and that you have been able to produce results!>

Be grateful you have a job. I know I am. I have faced more than one Christmas without a job and is very tough.

Only you can get you out of the rut you’re in. If you want out of being an SDR, start hunting for AE or other jobs. Work hunting for a job like it’s a sale. Be relentless.

Good luck!

first, thank god ur not a lawyer. second, im with you - went to a top school, thought i was gonna be a banker, fucked up and got in trouble and now im almost 30 as an SDR. but you wanna know what? i fucking love my life, i love who i am, and i look at my friends who are younger and “more successful” (tf does that even mean?) and so many of them are broken. no aim, no passion, just school-work-wife-kids-retire-die.

idk what your personal situation is but i am so happy to have taken all these punches in life early on. i truly feel resilient, i feel i have life experience.

just remember that everything you’ve done and experienced up until this point - EVERYTHING!!! - has accumulated and percolated and fucking fermented and resulted in who you are right now. and i can’t say if you’re a good person or not, that’s for you to figure out, but i can tell you i open up this sexy little app every day excited to read another post from the Lieutenant himself. so keep posting brother cause we are here for YOU

You got this man. Many of us, myself included, totally feel this.

You have some solid experience in less mature companies. This gives you a level of action and insight into what's needed to generate new meetings and pipeline, which is something most experienced AE's have long forgotten. And something most big corporate sales teams are desperate to add to their roster.

Maybe start building an 18-month plan to land at a more mature company, as either a Sr. SDR or Jr. AE. Your level of action and responsibility from the startup world will quickly make you a stand-out member of your team at a big corporate, and will pay you better / give you better career progression perspective than the startup life.

Startups are great for learning as a relatively new rep, or for taking a risk to make a big payday as a very experienced rep. I'm convinced startups suck for anyone in the midrange of their career (2-8 years of exp).

I don't know maybe something is affecting your personal life that is affecting your work life? I recommend therapy especially as you've had tough startup work history? Good luck!

Sales is one of those jobs that has really high highs and sometimes really low lows. Keep your head up and maybe try to take some PTO during the holidays to evaluate what else you may want to do.

Hang in there! It’s tough out there - having a job is an accomplishment in itself. If you’re open to it- try writing a gratitude journal every week. Noticing the simple things in life can really boost motivation. I studied psychology and the results from studies are really solid. I started doing this and noticed that I was happier even when I was having a bad week.

Just try not to let a bad hour turn into a bad day into a bad week into a bad month.
