Being active/posting on LinkedIn a criteria to to be hired

So I know a bunch of start-ups where they encourage their sales folks to be active on LinkedIn and I see the point in that for sure. The line begins to fade away for me when these companies expect anybody they're hiring to be active on LinkedIn too. One of my friends legit got rejected because he wasn't commenting on posts or posting shit on LinkedIn.

Being active on LI should be one of the criteria while hiring sales people?

Not hiring someone because they donโ€™t have a LI presence is just buffoonery. ย While I personally feel building a social brand is important, it canโ€™t be a requirement. Not everyone is socialย

Exactly. If you are a proven seller I want you on my team. I could care less how many likes your LinkedIn post gets if you are generating revenue.ย

I don't think it should be required, but if you are not active on socials in today's selling world, you're leaving money on the tableย

Oh yeah, for sure. But to have that as a reason to not hire an otherwise good sales person seems foolish

No, that seems ridiculous! Of course social selling is important but everyone has different styles. And if it's so important to the company and they check all the boxes then at least give them a chance and give them the opportunity to say that would social sell if they got the job.

I don't think this is nessecary, I keep a very up to date and modern profile with company branding and clear CTA's, something that I think all reps should do as it takes 30 minutes and then you set and forget. And that alone is enough for me to get recruiters hitting me up. As for posting content, I don't think it's a requirement.ย
