Work vacation? Is that just working remotely somewhere else? Depending on how much you’re going to work, I’d probably just lug the old computer. No need to buy new tech, in my opinion.

Everyone should have a laptop with the ability to fire up a remote desktop. Get yourself a Macbook Pro with a VPN connection and off you go.

Not sure what's work vacation, assuming you will be remotely working (in a different city/country etc.).

bizarre that your company wont buy you one but I use the new macbook air w/ m1 and its great. Its $999 usd but works well enough for me.
The M1 air is BEAST. But it’s still more then 1k

Running with MacBook Air 2018 13” - I’m having shit lots of tabs open as well, works perfect, fast and smooth. I will recommend!
Wtf. HOW? I have a 2020 MBA with the quad core intel processors and it’s POOP. Seriously considering taking a 65% loss on resale and upgrading because it’s so terrible.

Honestly not many. It’s my personal computer so mainly for mundane crap and entertainment.

Spotify open in the background, 4-6 tabs, some streaming video, maybe some downloading but infrequent. And it can support a 2nd monitor as advertised but then it’s crap when it does. It literally overheats driving the SCREENSAVER on both displays. I desperately needed a new comp. so I bought the last generation before the M1. Couldn’t be helped but it really sucks.

Just buy a cheap dell or ask your company to provide one, especially if they expect you to work on PTO.
I’d request a laptop through your work. Idk how a company with sales reps, especially if they’re expected to travel, can get away with supplying only desktops in 2021???
