Best Applying/Interview Practices?

Hi Yaโ€™ll

Long story short. My last position was the biggest cloak and dagger of my life. Week 1 included hardcore integrity issues. So just had to call it.

As an experienced AE on the hunt again. Any best tips and practices for the hiring process? Especially when it comes to salary and benefit negations - I could use some help.

Have a number that you won't go below and don't be afraid to walk away if they can't meet you where you need to be. My biggest regrets have been taking roles out of a scarcity mindset (nothing else is coming my way) rather than sticking to my guns and waiting it out.

Thatโ€™s for sure the situation Iโ€™m in today. Iโ€™ve always taken the first to say yes or what seemed โ€œclose enoughโ€ to what I wanted. After the ringer of BS and 7+ years of consistent success - Iโ€™m done with that noise.ย

Find a well connected recruiter, tell them your requirements and they might open some doors for you. Also, they have a lot of insights into pay ranges so you donโ€™t have to sit through interviews before realizing the pay is nowhere near your expectations

Theyโ€™ve been quiet the last year - but I should hit up some old connections!ย

Hate to hear that. I'm in the same position myself. Let me know where you land - and if they're hiring!

Linkedin seems to be adding new roles everyday - havenโ€™t even checked out other job boards yet. Iโ€™m really thinking I may go back to big corporate rather than startup land. ย where you located in the US?

I'm in Chi Town. Been trying to crack into Salesforce for the last few weeks but no dice yet.

Have a number set in your head make your expectations clear from the beginning and ensure they give you access to other team members youโ€™d work alongside to ask how they are tracking to their goals and if the OTE is attainableย

Find a role you are interested in then search on LinkedIn for a sales recruiter there and reach out with your resume. Also never hurts to see if you can figure out who the manager is and reach out to them. Are you in the tech industry? If so, I can give you an idea of typical OTE based on segment (enterprise, fed, SLED, commercial, inside, etc).
