Best practices for AE/SDRs sharing accounts

What are the best ways for AEs and SDRs to both prospect into the same account list?

Should they divide accounts? Divide contacts? What else?

Ideally, isn't it the SDRs job to prospect into the account and then turn it over to the AE?  Why would they both actively prospect into the account unless the SDR isn't doing their job.

And if the SDR is doing their job right, there should be notes on the outreach in the CRM.

this is ideal. but many times AEs are told they need to prospect into accounts (Like every AE role ive ever had) 

This normally happens when the SDR is new, or not trusted. 

With this, I would let the SDR reach outo to end users and managers to collect info.

Depending on the number of accounts available I try to make sure the SDR has access to about 90% of them and I take 10% and anything the BDR has put work into they get credit for. End of the day me generating an opportunity matters very little vs actually closing it and that is everything to the BDR/SDR role.

best strategy is to train up your SDR on how you want them to prospect into it, the people you want to meet with, etc. No reason for both to be prospecting into the same account. That just annoys anyone you may potentially meet with.

The AE should meet with the SDR at least once a week to review accounts and progress on outreach.   The (presumably) more experienced AE can help direct the BDR on the plan - industry trends, an new analyst report, etc., and work on messaging, cadence, etc.   Usually, the AE will outreach into higher titles, leaving the SDR to do the lower level ones.
