Best way to answer - "Why do you want to work @ Company"

Recently laid off as the first sales rep at a startup after 3 months. Just curious how everyone responds to this interview question.

Why DO you want to work for them? Other than to pay your bills?

down voters are marketing spies
Recently landed a new role with an org that asks this...

I looked up their mission and values and saw similar things. Aligned my "why" to their needs.

Had a competing offer too - who are notorious for asking this exact thing... it never bothered me to answer this.

Example for you "laid off but still in love with sales. looking to get back in the business and crush quotas"

My answer was focused on growth. How much they are growing - and the ceiling I hit in my current role. Literally waiting for someone to get hit by a bus to grow. No hard feelings but I see the potential for personal and business success in this new role with Company.

sorry, you got laid off.

if you can regurgitate the core values and how they align to your goals / what you're trying to achieve, that is the answer to your why.

last thing to note, this platform is kinda sorta definitely  supposed to be anonymous - might want to try and change your username and switch your pfp to an ape or something.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I usually answer this question (or similar) with this:

"When I am looking at a company or a position there are 3 things I consider:

(1) compensation.  I need to be able to care for my family and not worry about paying my mortgage. But while its not necessarily #1, its important so that I can focus on my job.

(2) Do I believe in what I'm selling?  I know from strong personal experience I can't sell what I don't believe in.

(3) Does it give back or contribute to society in some way?  I want what I do for a living to help people in some way."

For me that covers the bases.

Before the interview, of course you should be doing some research on them; their LinkedIn, their website, etc. Just try to find one thing from those sources that resonates with you personally and go ham on it.

For instance, one company in particular called out "product-led growth" in their LinkedIn header. This is something I believe in wholeheartedly and I've had bad experiences with companies that don't follow this philosophy. Tell the interviewer why this is important to you and be sure to focus on why this particular synergy could result in better results for them if they hire you.

Based on what I've read, your values match mine.  Specifically around ________________.  Can you speak to that at all?
