do you have sales ops in your current org?
If you do hit up the manager or someone on that team to have them tell you a little more about their job and what skills the company looks for when hiring.

then have a discussion with your manager about how you would like to go that route rather than AE.

See if the manager and the Ops leader can figure out a plan.

thats probs the easiest way to do it.

Hone these 3 skills:

1. Salesforce (Like you can create any report out of thin air. Then, sooner or later, Sales dashboards. Level marshmallow would be Tableau)

2. TechStack Knowledge (Since you mentioned startup, you'd have to get a lot of good tech-stack in. once you're stable, they'd want you to replace the existing stack and get something which costs less. it's a never-ending cycle)

3. *Perspective (The best sales ops people think things from the sales team perspective. Your job is not to build systems which are operationally easy and slap it on the sales team. Rather, ones which align with business objectives and sales team's objectives - and then make them operationally easy).

Make friends with sales ops on your team. Ask questions. Learn. Make it known to your manager that you want to make the change.
