Big concerns with a teammate...

Have you guys ever worked directly with somebody who just cannot take care of themselves?

The subject of this post is one of my besties in the office but he eats like a homeless dog in Ethiopia and it's getting to be really bad. Everyday for lunch he eats some kind of Slim Jim variant with a cheese stick, and then spends 45 minutes forcing out a rock solid shit before being able to come back to his desk.

The last thing I want to do is cause a beef where there isn't one because he already eats so much of it everyday. How do I get thru to this individual without sounding like a condescending douché?

I would start by slipping laxatives into his water

I suggest having him double up on the cheese sticks and slim jims. The sodium is high but the payout of having a nice salty shit eases the pain of having to double wipe.

Honestly, this reminds me of the lad I brought up yesterday. When will people understand that their body is to be treated as a temple?

Is he a young 20 something? I see a bunch of youngsters around the office partaking in similar lifestyles.

We have a morbidly obese dude in our office who eats fast food for lunch every day... yes every day.  Me and the dude who sits next to me started talking 20 dollar bets of what it's going to be today.  I'm up 40 this week.

Nothing you can do to help besides make some extra spending cash

I think you should be upfront with him and tell him basically what you've said here, but that's it. Don't keep bringing it up. Speak your mind and move on. Now, if he's truly a close friend outside of work and someone you care for then I would try to encourage him into a healthier lifestyle but otherwise say your piece and be done.

Just buy lunch for him everyday and that can help solve the issue

If you are that close with him, maybe try slowly dropping hints like "dude how to you actually eat like that?" and some other small things like that which might actually add up to him/her doing some self reflection on it?

While it's nasty and gross to watch someone live their life like that, it's really his choice. If that's the path he wants to go down, so be it. I would be direct and say his lifestyle isn't healthy and he should consider a change in his diet.

If this person is a friend offer to buy them lunch? Or offer to share healthy alternative snacks that you brought in? See if they take you up on the offer? Small steps if you're truly concerned.

A lot of times this happens when people have absolutely no idea where to start. Start by pointing him in the right direction with ways to eat a little bit better. Little by little

Start eating various meat sticks with him, if he feels uncomfortable it’s working.

Honestly...   I say, take him to Chik-Fil-A...   if he's gonna eat like shit anyway, he should at least do it proper!

Can't help someone until they want to help themselves. Unless they actually express wanting to improve their diet, eat differently, etc. you wont be able to do much for them.

Depending on how you approaching the topic, it could create a rift between you two. If they see it as an attack on them, things will go south fast. You could approach something like "Hey, I want to try and eat healthier for lunch, but don't want to eat salad alone. Want to try it with me?"

I also know someone who doesn't eat lunch in the office. When they do it's pretty much snacks. But they say they just aren't usually hungry.

It'll be tough to turn him around unless he wants to.  You've gotta help him find his epiphany and open his eyes.  Otherwise your help will only fall on deaf ears or worse, ruin the relationship.  Any idea what motivates him?
