Bitter Sweet Victory

I just closed a deal that I have been working on for about a year and a half.   It was worth 125% of my quota.  So, you'd think I'd be jumping through the roof!   Not the case, here's why:

The DM changed on me three times over the 1.5yrs.  When I finally got the deal to the goal line and thought I had the right DM, they had to get final approval from their partners.  THEN they came back and wanted us to match competitor pricing.  This went on for another two weeks.  Once my leadership team got wind of the deal they were willing to do whatever it took to bring them on board.

I was ready to call their final bluff and walk away from the deal with our final best price, I think we still would have won the deal but the leadership didn't want to take the chance.

I lost control of the sales cycle and let the customer walk all over me.  I'm definitely happy I got the deal but kinda pissed about how I won it.

Does anyone have a similar story or any advice?

Enjoy the big win and take the opportunity to improve on the next big opportunity. Don't let the fact that it didn't go exactly how you wanted it to take away from the excitement of the win. You've gotta celebrate the big ones!

Oh man, these big deals get us invested so much that it takes a toll when something like this happens. But now that it’s done, I’d say look at it as a win and go get yourself a beer🍻
