Book Recommendations? (sales or non-sales related)

What are some of the best books you read?

I'm creating this post because I recently got my hands into Inspired: How to Create Tech Products Customers Love by Marty Cagan.

Does any of you have any recommendations on books to grow professionally/learn something interesting?

For pure savage mindset, Think and Grow Rich. A cliche, I know. But good nonetheless

Yes, that sounds like a must-read. I'll give it a shot too thank you!

(Btw people who recommend me this book also talk about "Atomic Habits" by James Clear)

if you're looking to get into sales and hone your craft, Secrets of Question Based Selling is a great book. not that you have to follow everything he says, but it gives you a good idea of how to drive a conversation by asking open ended questions.

Thanks for the recommendation!

It actually sounds like a great pick. I've been told Sales is more about listening than talking, so asking open-ended questions is a natural calling.

that's definitely correct. you've got two ears and one mouth. listen twice as much as you talk. no one likes an overly talkative salesperson.

Personally, I had to stop reading sales books forever ago, they were good when I was first starting out but eventually your on the job experience will teach you more about yourself and your styles than any book will.

Instead I try to read random books that take my mind out of work (In all seriousness, if your day is only spent on linkedin, work, this site, then a sales book you are consuming yourself with professional development and you'll burn out faster than the European Super League)

SO with all of that being said:  Here is my list of book recommendations to take your mind off work:
- In a Sunburned Country (Travel books meets Australian History book with a comedy writer)
- Dancing with the Devil in the City of God (Rio's struggles leading up to the 2014 world cup once they hit their economic boom in the 2000s)
- In the Garden of the Beasts (Follows the US ambassador to Germany and his family living in Berlin as the Nazi party is coming to power)
- The Spy and the Traitor (Cold war spy book around a true story that is so crazy you'll think its fake)

However, the best book I've read in awhile was "The Splendid and The Ville"....The book is about the London Blitz through the events of Winston Churchill.....dude was a badass and probably the definition of a fearless leader.

Thank you so much for the recommendations!

Kudos to the European Super League reference as well.

I totally see your point about disconnecting from work, and I think it is a good insight. I am about to start my career, but I'll keep in mind not to fall into the "live to work" trap.

If you liked "In the Garden of Beasts", "Devil in the White City" is by same author and is also awesome.

Very similar experience with the burnout on sales books. Yes it's great to re-read some of the classics...but I've moved more into the self-development books but also read something that's outside of business completely.

I HIGHLY recommend Greenlights by Matthew McConnaughey - dude just knew how to live life and there are a ton of great tidbits to apply.

Sounds awesome, to be honest. Plus, we all got some time to spare and read in this pandemic.

Maybe you would also like "48 Laws of Power" or "Thinking, Fast and Slow."

It may not be from the same authors, but another personal favorite is "Extreme Ownership" by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. I love the idea of taking personal responsability until the very end.

I would absolutely read Catch Me If You Can by Frank Abagnale. That book gave me a lot of thoughts in how I presented myself to others.

Non-sales related, I have to insist on (despite being YA) the Six of Crows duology. Just 👌🏻

Positive Intelligence - great read for personal development and comes in real handy in the workplace. You should take the test and see what your Positive Intelligence Quotient, or PQ Score is. It measures the percentage of time your mind is serving you versus sabotaging you
