Boss forwards personal emails to you to respond

What is your return rate like when you do a cold response to a prospect that only your boss has been working with? They will ask him specific questions then he will just forward to me.

I typically try to say, “my boss forward this over to me so I could get you started right away.”

But it always feels awkward, the cold hand off. Does anyone else have this issue or suggestions on how to best reply to these messages?

How’s your return rate with these?

I don't think I have ever had to do this but if I did I would probably just give them a call to explain the situation rather than them receiving an email directly from me.

You’re right. Pick up the phone

I agree with @Queenofsales, picking up the phone seems like the best move here.

Typically my boss will reply to the email, copy me, and explain the hand off... that works really well and avoids that cold awkward handoff.

Same here, then on our reply we move him to bcc so he can see we got it and he isn't going to be reply all-ed to eternity and back.

Good call on the BCC, I haven't thought to do that! I always have to go out of my way to mention it to my boss later on that I took care of it, but BCC solves that problem

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
Had some success with it -  just a brief intro about what's happened and then diving straight into brass tacks.

In certain regions I wouldn't do this in primarily Japan as then it is viewed as a slight but in North Am + Western Europe, it's ok for the most part. This does depend on the title of the person your boss was talking with.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I’ve dealt with this a bunch. It goes well in my experience if you state that it happened and what your role is.

I’ll usually jump in with “Hi Sam - I can take care of this!” - Same thing you’re saying just worded a bit different. People are usually appreciative.

You know, I know everyone thinks it is corny but we all talk about the weather. I feel its a commonality between everybody so its fine to discuss. Especially if I can get someone to laugh during the call with something as simple as the weather, I feel it will be a better call.
