Breaks during the workday... besides lunch?

Do you guys take a break or two during the workday?

Asking because I just suddenly realized that I don't. Not that it's a problem, I guess I pretty much grind away all day, and then usually take 30-60 mins for lunch depending on the day but on really busy days I'll eat at my desk and multi-task.

My energy levels usually are non-existent during the last 1-1.5 hours of the day.

What are everyone's thoughts here? Would I be more productive/want to drink and cry less if I made some time for a 15 min or two during the day? Or keep grinding and I can take a break while counting my money once the commission checks hit?

Do you take breaks other than lunch?

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
I tend to segment my workday into one hour blocks but I allow for a 5-10 minute free period to walk around or read a free article.

Definitely important to get out of your chair!

Listen up. It's important to schedule small 10 min breaks on your calendar throughout the day. Get up, go outside, and not look at a screen. You want to burn out fast?

I don't know why more people don't schedule "Breaks" or "Breathers" like a meeting, you wouldn't no-show a meeting, so don't no-show your own breather. Your company and your clients will thank you.

Definitely am working on it this week. I think I just find it difficult with the "there's always something that needs to be done" attitude

I work from home so I probably take a break every 2 hours. I’m also adhd as hell so it’s hard to sit still. I find taking breaks to clean and listen to a podcast or music make a huge difference in my mood. If you don’t work from home then shit I’d be getting 3-4 coffee breaks a day.

I take a long break when I can - I have a hike near my home that takes 90 minutes door to door.  I do take my cell, but I'm away from my desk.   It's essential.

I have a problem where I never think to take breaks. I start at 8 and work non-stop until around 2, at which point I realize I'm hungry, dehydrated, and my eyes hurt from staring at a screen for 6 hours straight. I'll take a lunch break then, but then I never end up doing much work after.

I wish I remembered to take more small breaks throughout the day, I feel like I would actually end up working longer since I probably wouldn't be crashing as hard around 2. I've tried setting alarms to remind myself to take breaks but since my schedule is highly variable it usually goes off during a meeting or customer call, then I turn it off and don't remember to take a break till my hunger makes me. Same thing with blocking off break times on my calendar, I tell myself I'll do it after finishing a task but then inevitably get sucked into something else and end up not taking one.

I’m in a similar situation. I work 7am-12 or 12:30, eat, then work till 3 and then 3-4 when I’m supposed to load up who I’m targeting the next day, I’m just too dead to actually do anything

You cannot EFFICIENTLY grind all day. Study after study proves that.

As everyone is saying, some kind of break a few times a day is KEY for mental health and maintaining productivity and good output. I’ve got a puppy too so a break in the day for play is great for everyone. Even just giving your eyes a break from the screen every hour helps. My eye doctor said to look out the window at a horizon so your eyes can refocus and reduce strain.

I’m the worst about taking breaks, but I’m trying to be better. Walk the dog every two hours. An episode of King of the Hill for lunch.

Shit I used to work with a bunch of AEs who put in two hours a day bc they were remote. So that conversation was instead about taking breaks, when they were actually going to work for the day. And no, none of them were close to hitting their quotas

Breaks, and not in a scheduled way. I just get up and tour the office whenever I feel like it, and in my old office I'd tag along to the smokers lol.

WFH I tend to just pop out of the house and go to the shop if I find I'm not focussing.

We are on a 5 hour work day. I work in 90 minutes blocks, take a 10 minute breather to walk around the block and back to it. Condensing the day into a 5 hour format helps to remove distractions and streamline my day by only focusing on the most high-value and relevant tasks.
