Business Cards a thing of the past?

I work for a fully remote company and my team got into a little bit of a debate.

Some of my team thought it would be a good if we had business cards to pass out when we are out and about.

The other half said business cards weren't even necessary because what we do is 100% virtual and we do not do any business in person.

Wanted to get some people's thoughts on this and see if business cards are still necessary or not?

Are business cards still necessary?

I keep them in my laptop bag, purse, and my car. I give them out anywhere I strike up a conversation, not just meetings. I also insert them in handwritten cards I send to my clients.ย

God bless you for handwritten cards still. I commented this on another thread last week but its such a simple way to stand out that no one uses anymore.ย

You do not want a hand written note from me, I write like a 4 year old with cerebral palsy.ย

I love them, sure people can now search for you online, but I believe it's part great part of professionalism and customer service, plus you never know when you might need them, itโ€™s good to be prepared.ย

I made a post about this vs digital cards earlier this year and got shatted on for even thinking digital cards were a viable option.ย

To be fair, I have both physical and digital. Physical is still the standard. Anyone who truly wants your business card will want a physical card. The digital card has tech issues, probably marketing's fault tbh.ย

Worth having some on you.ย

Their importance varies based on segment.ย

I like them, and I use them, but I also have a "digital business card" that I can tap against phones that brings up all my info for people to save. Super handy at trade shows when I spend a lot of time talking to someone but ran out of cards.

I use them as well. Exchanging card was an added touch point in the last business I was in.ย

Still a thing surprisingly. I have a stack of mine and my customers.ย

helps in a meeting if you donโ€™t want to interrupt the person to jot down their contact infoย

I think it depends on what position you have and the current company you are at. Based on what you are selling makes a difference also. I do not think it hurts to have some with you in your work bag incase you might need them.ย

Yes especially for door knockers.

Spending an extra $10-20 for cards that look and feel really cool is worth it. Buy em and get rid of them as quickly as possible.

I like them and would use them when I begin travel again. Until then, they arenโ€™t in the company budget. Should I be blaming marketing for that?

While I do think they are phasing out, they are still necessary. Networking events, mailers, etc are all things that still exist in a fully remote environment.

I haven't even ordered my new ones, I'll wait until conferences are real again for me.

Great for shows, conferences, leave in cards, leave behinds. I include my LinkedIn on mine. Sometimes write a brief note on the back.ย

Here's a good thread I posted on this, and Corp actually featured it on his weekly video a while back if you want to check that out.

One of the best thoughts I saw on my thread was the idea to have blank ones in your bag too, in case the other person doesn't have one.ย  That way they can jot down their contact information even if they didn't bring a card of their own.

I personally think business cards are great.ย  I think people appreciate them and it brings out a bit of nostalgia when I get a card from a prospect or customer.ย ย
