Call for help

Hello everyone, I need some assistance. I'm looking to pivot and transition into tech sales. I have over 7years of experience as a sales rep in the FMCG sector. I'm currently looking for volunteer opportunities in any of these roles; SDR, BDR to hone my skills. I've earned certifications in these fields, including a Udacity Nanodegree in Business Analytics and Digital Marketing, Salesforce Admin and Google Digital marketing & E-commerce specializations from Coursera.

You said tech sales then listed a few jobs that are very much not tech sales.
Also what do you need help with? This is vague

Thanks for the feedback! Youโ€™re right, I should clarify. Iโ€™m focused on transitioning into tech sales, specifically SDR and BDR roles. Iโ€™m also interested in building skills in business analytics, digital marketing, and Salesforce admin to support this shift.
Iโ€™m looking for volunteer opportunities or advice on gaining practical experience. Any guidance on positioning myself for tech sales or finding relevant opportunities would be appreciated!

Your work, even as someone new to a trade, is worth something. Donโ€™t try to volunteer to do any job, such as BDR or SDR, to earn experience. The kind of company that would consider doing this wonโ€™t be the kind of company to provide the training and support youโ€™ll need to get the experience you seek to find a job. What you want to do is apply for roles, and then gain that experience. Gasty just posted this week about companies hiring SDRs. Take a look at those.

You might also want to start a new post with an anonymized version of your resume so that experts here can help you frame your current experience to make it relevant.

Realize that the job market is very tight right now, so youโ€™ll have to be patient and persistent.

Thank you for the advice and for pointing me toward Gastyโ€™s post. Iโ€™ll definitely check that out. I appreciate the suggestion about applying directly for roles and gaining experience on the job. I hadnโ€™t considered that volunteering might not be the best path for these positions.
Iโ€™ll work on updating my resume and consider sharing it here for feedback. Thanks again for the guidance, itโ€™s really helpful as I navigate this transition

Best of luck to you. Just donโ€™t work for free. A good company worth working for will train you appropriately and get you going.

Looks like it's CPG? I've never heard of the acronym.

But if buddy has 7 years in CPG, why the hell would volunteering be a consideration...

Late to the party here but I imagine there are many companies out there of which there target market our ICP is within the FMCG world. Your experience knowing the insides of the sector would provide invaluable knowledge to these companies of which there may not be many.

There are probably big ones and start-ups that have some form of tool that could help the FMCG sector run smoother even if that's just inventory management, pricing (competitor pricing companies) or any part of how that world works, there is bound to be a tool to help. So, don't volunteer, do the research on what companies might target your previous sector (use ChatGPT it's easier) and then apply. When applying, highlight your insider knowledge and how you can learn the basics to begin with but then smash them with what you are experienced in. And get paid to do it. Plus, an SDR that knows how to do a bit of marketing is always a plus.

Best course of action is to reach out to 5-6 companies you really want to work for and network with their recruiters and hiring managers.
