Calling all Digital Nomad Sales Savages

I've been nomadic since August 2020 after living in LA for 3 years and having my lease-end. I drove across the country twice and spent time in Chicago, Buffalo, Savannah, Dover (Vermont condo near a ski resort), and now in Austin. Planning to be there for the next 6 months.

Currently deciding whether Austin is the place for me for the long-term or if I want to try my hand at being an international nomad as the world opens up. I'm still living in Airbnbs and my biggest fear is buying a couch.

Sales jobs (especially in tech) were remote-friendly before covid and that trend has only accelerated since. Has anyone else in the War Room been doing this? Where have you lived? What's next?

Can't help answer your question, but I am from the Dover area. How'd you like our little neck of the woods?

No way! I skied at Mount Snow like 25 times this season, we probably crossed paths at The Last Chair.

I don’t live out that way anymore, but I wouldn’t trade my childhood in that area for the world.

Love it, hopefully one day we can cross paths at a War Room party and reminisce!

Moved from SF to Arizona in November. Planning on moving back to SF and then NYC for a couple months.

From the bay originally so moved to AZ for 70 degree winters. Go back to SF to live and network, then NYC for different city vibes.

So close but so far... I'm originally from Buffalo so I spent a fair amount of time visiting Canada side Niagara falls, Toronto, and Montreal when I lived in Upstate NY... Tell Trudeau to open up!!

Isn't Texas going thru a major heat wave with rolling blackouts again? My co-workers were doing the digital nomad thing during the polar vortex.  It was not fun and missed a lot of meetings:/

It's hot, don't have a frame of reference to know whether this is normal or not but so far power hasn't been an issue for me.

You’re living my dream! I’m thinking of starting doing something similar this year. I just want to save some money first.

Yep, getting money right is a good idea because with Airbnb and short-term leases you'll find yourself paying a decent amount upfront if you want to plan out 3-6 months ahead.

Curious to hear how you are doing this. Are you doing 1 month Airbnbs? sublets? how does it work?

Airbnb is my housing lead source, the deal is either done through Airbnb or we'll negotiate a short-term lease agreement outside the platform to avoid the service fee. You can usually get solid discounts for 30 day+ stays.

Sales skills have come in handy when negotiating lease agreements and building trust with new landlords. I was able to get a 50% discount off the place I stayed at in Vermont that was a five-minute drive from the slopes.

Short-term leases were underpriced in my opinion during Covid cause of the lack of travel happening. Now not so much at least in Austin, but it's still about the same as renting a decent apartment with added bonuses of your Airbnb being fully furnished, utilities included, and can pay with a credit card.

Wish this was more doable in Europe, tax laws & corporate insurance policies restrict from being a true nomad
