Cant a guy sell garbage trucks?

Nothing agains tech startups and Saas, I know there is a ton of money to be made, but I am struggling to find a place in the sales world selling something that is not going to be run and gun. Have two teenagers, and looking to take a risk when they move out, but right now I need something stable.

Garbage trucks, Government contracts, tractors?

Help a guy out?

There's a ton of us in here that aren't in SaaS. Have you filled out a profile on the jobs tab?

I did not - I was working so hard on my personal profile, I did not even know I had another step. So thank you!

Garbage trucks as a service? Free up your capital expenditure. Donโ€™t pay a huge up front cost, just pay us a monthly fee and weโ€™ll take care of the rest GTaaS ๐Ÿ˜‚

Believe me brother... there is money to be made in EVERY industry! As professional sales pros, we simply take clients from where they are to where they want to be by providing a solution that helps to get them there. If there is trash on the street - sounds like a truck to speed up the process is needed!!!!!!!!!!

I have never thought of this.. but somebody has gotta sell em.

Though I've been seeing more privatization of garbage collection to 'save government's money'. Then again, those companies need to buy those trucks...

And a municipality is not going to buy just one truck, right? Plus there is no recession or changes in the market for garbage trucks. Also how many manufacturers could possibly be in the garbage truck selling space. Versus the software world (no offense Saas guys) but we have multiple systems trying to take a bite of the same pie.

I'd bet the real money is selling maintenance programs to the cities that buy the trucks. They buy trucks maybe once every 10 years but the union would make the city keep them up to code.

Hell the brakes alone must be decent money with how hard they drive them.

I actually know someone who has made an exceptional living selling in that industry. Granted, his father patented a component of the truck, leading them to building out a specific kind of truck and then variations that they then sell, so he is definitely at the very top of his org as owner/manager. But - they do sell to municipalities and yes, you can make good money that way.

Government contracts are good money but it is always feast or famine. Budgets go in cycles, usually every 2-4 years. The key is to find something that has both gov't and commercial/consumer applications to ride out those lows in gov't funding.

Nothing wrong with finding a commonly used commodity like garbage trucks and running with it. With the shortage of everything now I bet anyone with heavy vehicles can sell them if they try hard enough.

I've got a buddy that sells heavy equipment to coal mines. Some of those trucks are in the 7 and 8 figure area.

I knew a guy who got in on organic foods early and he is not working anymore๐Ÿ˜‚ I wonder what the next thing is, EV contracts is one I find attractive (Oshkosh for example closed the USPS contract for their trucks)

never heard of someone selling garbage trucks... those bitches are expensive though I'm sure. I bet the commission for a sale is pretty fat.

Take this with a grain of salt as it was just a quick google search - "In terms of a ballpark figure, the cost of a brand new or lightly used front loader garbage truck might be in the range of $200,000 to $350,000. If pre-owned or a previous rental, you may be able to find a model in the five- or low six-digit price range."

Today I also learned there is a space in the world for rental garbage trucks.

yeah at that sale price, I'd be shocked if that's not a 200k/year sales job if you're good at it

There's a lease market for airplane engines.

Basically, there's a market for EVERYTHING.

And John Deere reps - those aren't cheap either.

I'd check out RDO; rental/lease/buy of all kinds of heavy equipment. Someone's gotta sell it!

Anything that is infrastructure related can be a good field to be in. With the huge push for EV cars the infrastructure (highways and utility) platform will have to have some large scale projects put into play over the next 5-10 years and then continuous buildout.

I would look at it from the equipment side and see about sales for that or from the personnel side. Companies continuously need sales people to help drive more business towards said company.

I don't have any solid leads for you but just throwing out what I have seen. I am not in tech sales and work in Industrial safety distribution and we were busy all through covid and busier now than we were pre covid due to technology roll outs (5G).

Great insight though - I have been combing through all kids of companies to check their career page. If you run into any big ones in that field I should checkout, I would appreciate the knowledge.

I would start looking at and understanding do you want to be on the manufacturer side of things working to sell to distributors or the distributor side of things and selling to end users.

On the manufacturer side you will be relying a lot on your distributors to sell your products and so if you aren't their top choice you will be fighting an uphill battle because the individual sales reps at those distribution companies may not lead with your product. At the distribution level you can sway your customer base to determine what products they may purchase.
