Capturing Discovery notes

Lets hear it from around the room....how do people capture their discovery notes?

I used to be a hand written guy. Something about writing it down on paper and then typing up into the CRM, helped me create better recap emails.

I am starting to get more into taking notes directly into CRM, almost transcribing the call and then making sense of the notes later.

Any other ways to capture?

keep it all in OneNote, transfer to SFDC as applicable.ย  Only hangup is when you copy and paste bulleted notes in there, SF loses it's mind

I find when people are typing on a call to be incredibly distracting, personally. Even if I know they're taking notes on the call it throws me off.ย

I feel this. I think about how writing notes makes me a little more present...more like I am listening to understand as opposed to listening to take notes and understand later.....

if that makes sense

All about the muscle memory my man.ย
Ask the same probe questions in roughly the same order, let the client speak.ย
USE SILENCE as a tool, keeps them talking, lock that into short term memory.
Scribble like mad POST meeting.ย

In the covid world that is Zoom, I record my calls on my phone so I can better pay attention. In-person meetings its pen and paper!

Ive heard some people talking about this- even pre covid. Would straight up have a recorder, phone on speaker (in a room) and record it. I think there are some "laws" against that in certain states but, its all for the greater good.ย

I dig it

Write then type. I work
with some โ€œold schoolโ€ buyers and honestly I think they like to see me writing, and retyping it helps me to organize it and search later.

Ive tried taking a hybrid approach recently, transcribing when customers go on monologues, writing down key points/questions for later and then cleaning it up for all my "metrics-driven" executives to see ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜…

I use EverNote on the call then transfer to CRM right after - I've had CRM crash or freeze on me, or just closed the opp without saving and wanted to jump off a bridge, so EverNote removes that risk.ย  It also has a solid phone app so I can see notes on my phone if I'm OOO.ย ย

We also use Gong to record and analyze calls so taking notes is somewhat redundant.ย ย

SPIFs are always helpful - I've found that individual ones can create some resentment because it always rewards top performers, but you can pair your top reps with your bottom reps and that has a natural mentorship effect.

Self-deprecation/being silly can get folks out of a rut. I once had a team that I simply could not motivate. Showed up to our morning meeting in a onesie and the team was jacked up about it.
