Career existential crisis - cheers to job hunting

Career summary:

3 years at tech start-up (B2B Marketplace for equipment procurement) (2017-2020). 4th employee hired. Grew revenue and MRR significantly. Were close to profitable but company pivoted to a finance SaaS product.

2 years at med device/parts/service company (2020-2022). Territory development in carolina's. Hit quota both years. Sold multiple 6 figure deals into new accounts. Also helped launch a new product for our catalog. Led 2 new remote employees.

September 2022 - with a desire to get back to a start-up, took a chance on an opportunity. Company let go of 90% of staff 8 weeks into my employment.

January 2023 - took a job as sales manager for a local manufacturing company in B2B medical space. It's been nothing short of a nightmare. I was mislead and fed a bunch of BS during interview process that's coming to light now.

The last 5 months have been a blur. I feel beaten down.

Applications have started going out today. I'm hopeful, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't stressed.

I feel my experience and skills can translate to nearly any industry with a little bit of guidance and product training. But more importantly, there's no ego. I'm not looking for a 6 figure base with $500k OTE.

Oh, the endless pursuit for the perfect company! One that not only provides a steady paycheck, but also a place where taking big risks and dreaming big are not just buzzwords in a glossy brochure, but a way of life. This mythical land of work-life balance, where the CEO doesn’t just tolerate a little harmless moonlighting on your personal passion project, but actually encourages it. A place where you can soar to new heights, or at least swing for the fences, with the full support of your colleagues. In short, a workplace that won’t clip your wings, but give you a nudge off the nest.

Good vibes to those looking for new opportunities.

1.) Sorry to hear the turmoil currently happening
2.) companies are very fickle and tough to know how much will be true until you are on the inside.
3.) you will come out of this better.

Definitely weird times. I was in college still during the late 2000's early 2010's recession.

So the market has always felt opportunistic for a sales person.

Like @sahilsaid in his AMA this week, it's always felt there were opportunities everywhere.

I'm nervous, excited, scared, but hopeful about the next few days to learn what's out there.

That's a great resume, and I'm positive you'll find something.
Yes, those companies exist. Realize that every company will have its personality quirks; the trick is to find the one where the quirks are acceptable to you and amusing rather than aggravating. You're not going to know all the ins and outs during the interview process, but remember to backchannel any opportunity so you do get a better view of the company as a whole and can mitigate as much as possible of the bs a recruiter might be telling you.
You've got this, and you'll find something.

If i was you i would go back to the med device parts/services industry that you had success in.
would you go back to that company? What about their competitors? i bet they would like your experience.

also remember that there is NO such thing as a perfect company.

just a company that can check multiple boxes on your list.

Make your list of needs in a company, rank them, then see how many of the boxes a company checks when your learning about them

Has massive growth ever led to mental breakdown? I have been hustling since 17 years old chasing to strive for success doing odd jobs and unintentionally ended up with Edtech K12 Sales as my first official sales job - A toxic culture with no employee respect eventually me to switch after 18 months. Since reps in Edtech are highly valued, had no option but to continue in Edtech sales. This time it was higher education segment, things looked good in the first few month but slowly it started adapting methodologies like the old Edtech since the management was changed. I decided to move out and switch to B2B SaaS. After 13 months of learning & success, my aspirations weren’t matching with the growth vision shared by my manager and ended up being desperate to switch. Got to a AM-Inside Sales role with a 50% hike. Guess what? It led to my mental break down since the culture is pathetic. In entire journey, all challenges never affected my performance but l am losing the spark to glow and hustle eventually. While I plan to switch, a token of guilt is still alive. The experiences have made me far better and strong as a BDR but blank about the next steps in my career. Thanks for reading. Do share your thoughts.
