This is a false choice.

However, if I had to choose it's salary. Can't eat career path.

Just don’t let a hiring manager promise you the moon but undershoot your market value by something ridiculous like $50k. $10 or $20k difference I’m taking the career path. But I’m not taking a huge pay cut for upward mobility that “might” happen.

Amen. Oh, don't go beneath market value period. And promises are nothing.

I want to get paid, fella. If I get paid well for 2 years and I outgrow that role, I'll have the skills I need to get paid more in the role that I want.

Career path, whether or not it's at *that* company.

So if I received two job offers, one from a company that could propel my career that was $20k less and one from a company that would make me stagnate that was $20k more, I would take the lower pay.

But obviously I'd rather not settle and would want both money and a strong career path. And obviously there's a minimum salary I would accept.

I'd argue salary begets career path.

Fair point! I've definitely turned down higher salaries because the companies had major red flags, though. And not just red flags that would mean I'd be miserable, but ones that made me think it would be a dead end career-wise.

Upward movement is always the goal if you’re in the industry you wanna be in and with a company you like. And that should always be kept in mind each year based on performance. Your homework to do and monitor.
As said by @SaaSyBee, can only accept a certain salary.

Why not both? I'd say be very picky with who you are choosing to leave your current employer for.

Ideally it's both jump in your career path and more $.

Unless you can get a career path in writing with set raises every X months (in which very small amount of companies would do this, especially if you’re new to the company) it will always be salary. The amount of people who have been promised roles and then had those opportunities rescinded is quite large.

Very poorly crafted poll.

The right answer in life is Both. The right answer to your poll is Salary.

You could have a great job, at a company with dope culture, amazing product, etc etc.

If someone offers me a salary @ 2.5x my OTE, I’m taking it. Even if the job is located in hell.

I don’t go to work to make friends and have fun.  As someone who is literally living this scenario as we speak, it’s no joke.

While individuals will certainly have their own personal motivators, if a whole team is in the dumps there is probably a common denominator.

Assuming you're their manager here. If so then don't focus on motivating the team as a whole, but the individuals.
