Money. They can weasel out too easily with empty promises.

Interesting - how can you secure that "money" at a different place/time?

Career path for sure, money can come and go, but a career path is how you develop as a person. I'll take personal growth over cash any time, the first will earn the second, but the second can't but the first.

Agreed but only if it's a legit company.  I worked for a mid size printer manufacturer.  The only thing you could trust is a paycheck.  Their words were all lies!!! Promises of mentoring, internal promotion and career growth were all BS.  When ever i see their "CFO", really accounting manager, I publicly shame her.

Oh yeah, you have to make sure the career path really is there and you have the skills to grow professionally or achieve them there

I would say it depends on your approach to your career, or how long you want to stay at each company.

I think it depends on your current strategy. Me, I like my side hustles and flexibility, so a high paying job would be my personal way to go.

I´ve decided I dont want to be a manager, I want to be an IC for at least the next 5-10 years. So I prefer Salary to Career Path, but i dont think they have to go seperately

Money can also generate career path. I was successful SDR (blew out quota) and got promoted to AE. I was a successful SMB AE and got promoted to Mid Market, then enterprise.

Most company’s vision of a career path is utter bullshit. Just be vigilant, do your research, and trust your gut.

Just had to make this decision actually, chose the career path option. Put in my two weeks at my old job because a new opportunity came up that offered me experience in the direction I want to take my career, my now old company threw a title change and the opportunity to make probably double what I’ll be making for a while at my new company, but I decided the money I’ll be making now still covers the bills for me and the experience I couldn’t pass up and think it’ll lead me to more and better opportunities in the long run.

The older I get the more I realize money isn’t everything, happiness is. If you’re happy, it doesn’t matter how much money you make. But money also makes me happy and I enjoy chasing it however, it can be temporary happiness.

Usually the career path and salary line up pretty well. I’m always wary of a high base salary indicative of it being tougher to hit the number or how long it takes to do so.

Basically this boils down to short term vs long term gratification... career path should always lead to a higher salary. That being said, no reason why that higher initial salary couldn't come with a promotion or two if you do a good job!
