Cartoons as slack/gmail profile pictures

Drives me nuts seeing Becky from compliance with a picture of Batman in my email complaining that I set the wrong expectations. Or the support guy with a Jedi as his picture. Grow up, nerds.

Is it acceptable to have a cartoon as your gmail/slack photo?

Reminds me of that meme "They told me to dress for the job I wanted, not the job I have.  Now I'm sitting in an HR disciplinary hearing wearing my Batman costume"

Internal?  No issue.  My external/customer-facing images are professional.

Mine is cartoon Rowan Archer. Looks nothing like me.

Cartoon Sterling Archer would be a better one.

But it is so trendy and shows your personal quirks with having that cat batting around a ball of yarn as your picture in Slack/Gmail.....(sarcasm)

I have a client that is in the playing card space and had everyone “Going” a few years back on their app. Every person I speak with there has a custom background and avatar. It’s honestly the coolest thing (very low bar) to bring to a conference call.

This personally bugs me, which it shouldn't. But if I wanted to get technical, it is not appropriate because I want to be able to recognize people. I heavily rely on Slack profiles to identify people. So like maybe not be a weird introvert and add your pic so I can hi in real life?

Even I use cartoon but haven't got any backlash. I must try Batman though soon 😁

I probably would say no for a customer facing role where they’d see it when you email them. But anybody who pretty much only deals with internal co-workers who cares

Slack, yes. Email no as it is client facing.

I mean, on one hand, who cares? On the other, be an adult and have a professional headshot. It's probably not a good thing, but I typically dismiss any and all adults with cartoon propics etc. as immature or weird.

For personal stuff - yes.

For intra-office stuff - maybe.

For customer-facing communications - no.

I don't like it externally (shouldn't surprise anyone who has seen my hat post lol) but internally? 100%

My slack is intra-office only and no one has a real picture. I've got my cat when she was little.
