Certifications for experienced AE

Hey everyone, I need some suggestions about certifications/noteworthy career development that you obtained that's helped you crush your current role or stood out in the interview process for a new role. Recently faced a layoff so I have a bit of time on my hands between interviewing

My background:

  • 3 years at a large VAR selling into SMB and Enterprise FinServ (hardware and software)
  • 1 Year at large ERP company
  • 6 months at small GRC company focused on Enterprise FinServ

I don't have a preference in a specific technology category but I noticed some of the more Data intensive roles I've interviewed for, I've not done very well in the interviewing process.

Not really sure if there are many certifications that will make you stand out. Results are the best for that.

hit up the search bar this has been asked before.

idk if there are any broad or general certifications that will REALLY help you.

There may be industry specific ones that could help.
like if you sell Salesforce being certified in the application could potentially help. that sort of thing

I'll chime in that certifications may not be the best path to the next job. You might want to do some self-guided research into data, for example, so you'll do better in interviews and can understand the business better, but I suspect your results and sales ability are what to hone in on for the career.

Of course, if there are certifications you simply want to pursue as a method of learning and bettering yourself, have at it. I just personally don't think it's going to have a significant impact on your next job.

I would say put more time learning the products you sell even more, like get to the point of a SE's knowledge before you get cert's

I personally dont have any extra certs. However, as a hiring manager, I do highlight those in my interviews. Just shows initiative to do something outside of what schools teach you. Personal development is a huge plus for interviews.
