I've been very skeptical of AI for a long time but I've literally been playing around with ChatGPT for the last hour and my mind is blown.

Marketing copywriters are gone...SDRs have no excuse to not double-check emails.

Not even joking but this is truly groundbreaking.

Might be time to look into being an electrician.

I agree. I asked it to write a step by step plan for onboarding a new SE to my company and it spit out the plan my sales director put together almost verbatim. Crazy stuff.

Just wondering, is your entire strategy based on mails? I work at an enterprise level, so it might be different, but this is just a very very small part of the process.

No AI can come close to human creativity. Many do a great job of tricking us into thinking they are creating but in reality they are more accurately recyclingโ€ฆ it will be some time yet before SDRs are obsolete. Donโ€™t get me wrong, as soon as businesses can automate the role, they will, but itโ€™s not there yet.

SDR is the start for most AE's. Without the SDR role im curious to see how people will become AE's (right out of college? AM first?)

I think SDRs are going away from US jobs regardless. More and more companies are paying well English-speaking people in lower COL countries that can do almost as good of a job for 25% of the price. I see more full cycle SMB reps replacing them to develop a "bullpen" for MM an ENT.

I read an intresting piece about how the role was created in a time of constant thirst for growth due to low interest rates and those days likeley aren't coming back.

Hope I'm wrong because the SDR position was good for me as a 23 year old.

I have found SDR roles are mostly for the funnel where you can get cheaper and usually better junior/inside AEs than going to market by recruiting from within. Outside of that, the role can 80-90% be automated with the 10-20% really showing sales chops.

I keep going back and forth on this.

I lean to the side of what @CorporateStiffsaid...the human element can't be replaced.

Sure, it can be mimicked and imitated but you can't put ChatGPT on the phone and have high level conversations/negotiations on the fly.

ChatGPT won't help you cultivate a relationship or help with your active listening or help you give empathy and grace during stressful situations.

However, the ones who utilize the technology properly and morally will benefit immensely.

If you want effective SDR-type outreach, nothing replaces a real person.

Yeah, it's pretty accurate. It's quite ironic cause they have more data on code because of GitHub than writing a cold email. In my opinion SWE and programmers are gonna be booted soon.

Cold emailing has always been bullshit regardless. Most orgs just do automated sequences. The phones are 80% of the job, and itโ€™s not like TCP laws would permit robo-dialers even if the technology existed.

I think this will replace the outsourced SDR agencies first before SDRs in general. (Theyโ€™ve been garbage in my experience anyways)

I think in the near term (3 years), the SDR role will still have a place in an organization, but with a major focus on developing them into an ISR or AE.

That being said Iโ€™ll use this to create raw emails for new sequences and then personalize them for now, but if anything itโ€™ll kill off automated (non personalized) sequences long term because theyโ€™ll have a lot of the same language (current SDR so Iโ€™m curious what others think)

@detectivegibbles I Like your addition of, โ€œproperly and morally.โ€ <br>Based on the way we act as a species, Iโ€™m sure we will treat it with the respect it deservesโ€ฆ.we can pretty much guarantee it wonโ€™t be used morally, unless morally = for increasing profits. In which case then yes, it will be used โ€˜morallyโ€™ all the time! <br><br>Ethics and morality in AI is a hot field right now for anyone looking to use that philosophy degreeโ€ฆ my company has a whole team dedicated to the ethical and moral use of AI and big data, which Iโ€™ve never heard of before- do other big companies have this?

This thing is sick. Has anyone tried asking it to write actual code for different website elements? Or machine learning algorithms lol I have and it does provide an output at a basic level. The answer to this question though is that it can only replace spread and pray SDRs in spread and pray companies.

I haven't played around with it, so I'm not working with the complete picture. But, at this stage, no.

It'll likely be a key element and change GTM functions over time.

The best BDRs/SDRs are great at personalization and relevancy. Good ones will use this type of tech to be more efficient.

bad/mediocre ones (and marketing teams) will use it at scale and not appreciate the full benefits.

The whole point of becoming an Adr is To find a job that excites them and work with like-minded people
-Build meaningful relationships along the way
-Have an awesome life outside of work

And to some is to become a AM, automating the process removes the opportunities to experience any of this
