Check in time

Long time! Hope you cavemen and cavewomen are all doing fine?

I have been searching the chat for salary posts to get an idea of what AE's are doing/making.

I feel physically sick. I mean, I need some god damn reassurances ๐Ÿ˜‚

as some of you fine ass folk know, or maybe you forgot already, I am now 2 months into my first AE role selling SaaS in the recruitment tech world in the UK.ย

my salary is 47k woth OTE at ยฃ65k (5% commission)

granted I am new to the SaaS world and tech sales in general, so hoping that I am right and have made the right choice?ย

I feel 5% is disgustingly low for one, what do you think?ย

I am very happy with the company and the culture, truly awesome, but I am just thinking I may be on a low level income for as AE, how will I get to like 100k base after 300k OTE??

please disregard the below sentence, I can't get it off as the app is quite retarded sometimesย

my salary is ยฃ47k (probably arou

If you like the company and culture, and are new to AE, you seem to have landed pretty well.

If they are providing solid training for a good foundation, you are learning, then you are putting yourself in a great position to move up when the opportunity presents itself. It sounds like you're really second guessing yourself about the compensation, but again, you're really new, and most people aren't getting the massive OTE right out of the gate. It took me years to work up.

You could start looking around, but with only 2 mos in the role, I'm wondering what you might find.

Cheers ๐Ÿฅ‚, appreciate your reply, I wrote a plan that suggests I stay here for 3 years as I donโ€™t want my CV to show Iโ€™ve moved around too fastโ€ฆ thoughts on this?

3 years is a long time. Don't sell yourself short if you find something better after some time has elapsed. Get what you can re training and best practices now, but don't hold to some mythical timeline that may not make sense, particularly if you find something significantly better.

Looking to job hop right away as a new AE is going to present challenges, but leaving after a year or so after gaining skills will not be looked on poorly. Job hopping is leaving after short commitments time after time. Try to choose wisely as you move on; this job, for example, may not compensate as well as you want, but you are getting support and training. Your next job should give you more money and continue giving support and training, so you continue to improve your finances and your ability to continue to grow.

especially in the sales world as long as you are waiting at least 8months to make jumps, most companies won't bat an eye. @Sunbunny31is 100% correct that you don't need to punish yourself for that long, especially if you learn what you need and the money isn't piling up, or a path to that money hasn't shown itself internally.

its not about the first contract. its about the second one.

Stay at LEAST a year, and do well, then jump ship and look for a higher base.

you did the hard part, which was getting this first role.

Thank you boss, if you remember, I have a TON of roles on my CV, I think if I stayed less than 2 years, it would not look goodโ€ฆ that being said, itโ€™s all about the story and progress toward that climate tech world ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Thanks for the encouragement โ€ฆ need to stick to it for a good while ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

Seems like you're doing pretty well.

I see some crazy numbers here that don't reflect what I see out in the real world in Canada, if that helps.

I agree, I think a lot of published incomes on here are nothing but seriously inflated and it frustrates me tbh because it can be discouraging to new hopeful sales savages. No offence y'all, but I highly doubt you'd spend so much time on bravado and bring in $300k a year. Ppl making that money operate on another level and they are not on bravado. I say thay humbly, cos here I am lol and I do think there's a few on here who do genuinely pull shit in and maybe do push that band but the majority who throw those numbers around, sorry I am not buying it

Move to the US if you want that money buddy. Commission is generally low in the UK compared and salaries tend to trend a little lower in comparable jobs. However 2 sides to every side of the story, you'll enjoy a little better work life balance in the uk, but pay for it with a lower standard of living in general. I used to live in the UK. Not in saas tho.

That does seem a bit low, but I donโ€™t know what you brought into the positron to help them value you higher. You will probably have to go elsewhere to get more money.

One thing to note - UK has a much lower salary.

Now for AE SaaS, these tend to be for those that will show a 10-20% turnover a year just as people miss quota and leave/move up the company.

But the best way, interview and jump ship. Having a customer that the company wants is also a big winz

If you felt that way, why did you accept the position? Understanding your career path is something you should clarify and understand during the interview process. Spell out your concerns in you 1:1s and work to gain clarity. Two months into the role is NOT the time to try and renegotiate.

Absolutely, not even thinking about renegotiatingโ€ฆ Will bring up some suggestions after I pass probation, the comms I tried to neg before joining and they said itโ€™s non negotiableโ€ฆ but it was also the only AE role I could find that fits into my master plan ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ™

Youโ€™re ok mate. Itโ€™s easy to focus on salary and compensation, forgetting the experience and people you learning from. This is some years ago but for reference I got my AE role in UK after 6 years selling SAAS and had a 55kยฃ base double ote. And Iโ€™m guessing you wonโ€™t have a capped commission? Just hit higher % ;) sell for 2M and get 100k extra ;) 5% is not super low. Depends a bit on your comp plan.

100k base is for ppl who sell in the largest enterprise software segment. Maybe having one or few accounts. They have either 20years experience, or have consistently smashed numbers to make their companies pay up way faster than normal career progression.
