I made 1% on closed business as a BDR while at a start-up...so this seems like a company that is taking advantage of you.

$50k base, $23,000 variable with a $73K OTE seems lower than most BDR OTEs these days.

Time to dust off that rezy and get on the hunt for a new role.

I think it depends on the industry. I’ve seen some people make as high as 20% of closed business, and some make as low as 3%. I personally have not seen 1% before, but there are so many industries and comp structures out there at this point I think I’d only be surprised at a sales role with NO commission at all for closed business.

First off, congrats on the big close!

Second, every industry is different. 1% for some might be ok, others wouldn't even get out of bed.

What bonus are you talking about? Most of us in sales don't get a bonus, that is for the wagies. We eat what we kill. You might hit some accelerators but it is still commission.

“Uncapped” commissions, 50k base and bonuses for passing quarterly and yearly quotas. It’s totally possible I’m in the wrong community as above person stated but.. here I am :)

I don't see the "you don't belong here" comment, maybe deleted. If you sell you belong here, that's that, so don't worry about some underachiever complaining.

I'd say the 1% commission makes sense considering you have bonus incentives you mentioned and are selling services/products. Those SaaS people make high comp but we all know deliverables for them is just Ctrl-C > Ctrl-V.

Thank you. That 1% is just what has been paid, including those bonuses. Based off of final job closing/profitability which I do not have control over. I understand the metrics of it all, I guess I’m just not happy about it. I appreciate the input

You should have a detailed breakdown of your comp plan, if not ask for it.

You should always be able to calculate what you get from any deal, pre any surprise bonus.

Just a title within this company, essentially AE but it’s sales and there are quarterly and annual quotas

I’m relatively new to sales in a corporate environment compared to the majority here, only a few years, but I prospect, follow dead leads provided by marketing ;), meet with customers to assess needs, interface with design team, write scopes and personally closed deals from $20k-$400k

I don't know, it seems light.  I haven't seen 1% before.   Seems like the margins on what you're selling must be razor thin.

Are you saying you closed 2.3 million dollars in sales (presumably in a year) and you will make $23,000 ?

Ok not including base.  If the base is $150,000 per year maybe this is ok.

Looks like base is $50K, so comp appears to be $73K or so.

Yeah that's probably not enough if you're actually the person asking for the purchase orders.  Maybe acceptable if you're a channel rep and you're glad handing distributors.

Monster numbers, is this standard across the board at your company?

I’m near the middle of the pack. Top earners have closed 10m-17m with key customers. Those are outliers, with great enterprise accounts. Several are around the 3-4 million yearly

Depends on what the quarterly bonuses look like. From a glance looks like you're being underpaid.

It really depends on the industry, but that seems very low for the volume you’re bringing in…

Really depends. When you say you closed 2.3m is that in renewals or upswells? Was it money the company already had and you had them renew? Because it’s important to have context here.
