Context: A friend of mine moved to NYC last year and was trying to get hired in a sales role for the first time. His background is as an engineer/cofounder of a medical device company that sold the device he developed himself. He ended up selling the patent/company, and wanted to make the pivot I mentioned.
The market being what it is, he was having trouble finding a role. Recently, he started up a new "personal brand" Instagram page labeling himself a "Sales Closer." Mind you, the guy has no sales experience outside of his founder role. **EDIT** He's been a Sales Engineer for a little under a year.
His first post was a black and white portrait of him in a nice suit pretending to be on a call. The only likes are pictured:
Seems he's fallen in with a group of these self described "Sales Closers." Checked one of their profiles, and it was all similar pictures to what my friend posted with a bio claiming to be a "High Ticket Closer" with 750k in contracts closed. I'm immediately skeptical, because if you're closing "high ticket" deals in NYC, 750k would be like... One deal.
Has my friend gotten involved with a group of grifters? What are your thoughts on independent "Sales Closers" for hire? Should I express to him my worries?
