Cloud security certifications

anyone here currently working in cloud security? if so, is there any benefit to taking some free AWS certificates? I want to break into the vertical and am wondering how much an AWS certificate would differentiate myself from other potential candidates.

the certificate I'm currently looking at is called: AWS Cloud Practitioner essentials

I got the AWS Cloud Practitioner when breaking into the Tech Sales, but not needed IMO.

I think it definitely helped me land a role since it shows I am more passionate about Tech or willing to learn. But it wasnt a major topic in the interviews

Plus its pretty easy

There's the answer. Though it won't work for companies on Azure. ;)

AWS was the cheapest and easiest at the time, plus still not 100% how to pronounce Azure.

Every time I heard it, seems like it changes a little bit like how people pronounce niche

We're on Azure. It's pronounced "Azure".

Unless you're Scottish, then I don't know. All bets are off.

I hear the "a-zhur" or the "ae-zer", as you can guess I work with a lot of people who try to look smart, but never do

It can't hurt, but it's not a requirement. Good track record in sales is more important.

Which companies you looking at?

Orca security just had an SDR role open up. I’m targeting them specifically

Nice, they're a good org with great product.

If you're applying for SDR role there it can't hurt at all.

However don't let it get in the way of applying. You can learn the cloud security jargon when you're there -- I know firsthand becuase I worked for one of their competitors for a spell.

A smart and efficient BDR who is willing to learn will stand out.

Any tips on how to get a foot in the door? Here is my situation:
No sales experience (just TechSalesU) and I don't know anyone at the company. I hit up a bunch of people on their talent team who happen to be located in the city I'm living in. I don't have any mutual connections through my network (university and past companies)

Got a good resume?

Upload anonymous version for feedback.

I'd try some personalized outreach to SDR lead.

Out of curiosity, have you looked at any job descriptions/requirements for roles in that field?

Yeah so I have and they do not have any requirements for certification. I really want to just get my foot in the door and believ it would show some passion. Some of the more senior people in the sales org that have positions I’d like to have all have a bunch of certs

They may have acquired those certifications while they were working. I wouldn’t wait to apply.
