Cocktail Recipes!

It's Friday - yay!

What's your go-to beverage of choice that you can make better than anyone else?

I know you've all done virtual cocktail mixing zoom calls - so you gotta have something!

My top 2:

Old Fashioned:

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (make this myself - 2:1 ratio of sugar:water and toss in some aromatics, like a cinnamon stick, orange rind, whatever suits your fancy! Set over medium heat and stir well until all the sugar is disolved and *just* about to boil. Turn off heat and allow to cool).
  • 3/4 oz water
  • Dash of bitters
  • Hefty orange rind (about the 2"x1")
  • 3 oz Whiskey (I use Buffalo Trace)
  • Bourbon soaked cherry
  • Large ice cube from those special trays (yes it makes a difference)

Start by placing your orange rind in a chilled glass. Add the simple syrup and water, bitters, whiskey in that order. Stir. Drop in the large ice cube. Stir. Add cherry, Stir. Finit!

Mint Gimlet:

  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • Mint tea bag
  • 1.5 oz Gin

Take the glass you're gonna use (can be a fancy Martini glass) and pour in the Gin. Place the tea bag in the Gin while you prepare the other ingredients (at least two minutes). Take out a cocktail shaker and add the lime juice and simple syrup. Add enough ice to the shaker so it has at least 4-5 ice cubes (depends on the size of your shaker, ideally you want 1/2 - 3/4 full). Take the tea bag out of your Gin and squeeze any liquid out into the glass. Empty the glass into your shaker. Shake that motherfucker! Carefully pour just the liquid from the shaker into your fancy glass. Enjoy!

Gimmie something to try tonight!

Try an unusual negroni. Sub the campari for Aperol and use dry vermouth or lillet blanc.

Great drink!

Ok, trying to imagine the flavors of that. Sounds complex.ย

It's wonderfully complex. Still has that bourbon base feel, but the Herbsaint rinse hits the nose first with that black anise and the lemon oils. It's such a fun drink..and one of the oldest cocktails in the US. Thanks NOLA!

So Iโ€™m a peanut butter nut. Not like all these fake people say...I legit could have a problem lol. BUT it tastes like liquid peanut butter and as long as you donโ€™t go cheap you donโ€™t have to worry too much about a hangover.

I would say Old Fashioned since it's my favorite or Sazerac, but they're already mostly on here.ย

My other choice is a Blood & Sand:

When I visited a bar in New Orleans, I first tried it and was hooked. The bar had a Mad Men vibe, and they play actual record behind the bar over the bar speakers.

It was great. There's also a really nice restaurant next door, I think it was called Lilette. They share a kitchen, and both serve food.
