Cold calling the direct line vs HQ

This is about 50/50 for me.
I have have been told to never call someone's direct line and always go through the HQ line due to it being considered "spammy"
Other has have instructed to ONLY call the direct line to avoid the gatekeeper.
What's the opinion on this?

I do it the other way around. Not getting them at their desk "legitimizes" my efforts to hit them on their cell/direct.

What’s the difference? If you believe you’re calling the right person and they will find it valuable calling their cell is not a big deal at all, if anything you’ll get a no sooner. I would say to try to go through the business first but if that is continuously not successful hit up the cell.

Well the initial difference is there no gate keeper dealing with a cell. You could be asking for the right person but who cares if the front desk person doesn’t allow you through.

Also the benefit of the cell. The front desk person will never get you through.

How would you respond if they say you are spamming them?

Most of the time address it directly. I don’t mean to annoy, I’m trying to get your attention about xyz, if they say no then it’s a no if it can be beneficial then you just booked a meeting

i would 100% prefer direct line. BUT if you only have the HQ its worth a shot to see if the operator connects you directly or its impossible.

It all depends on the prospect and your 'pitch'. Nobody wants to have a spammy call on their direct lines, but I have had good luck when i was an SDR where I'd call on direct lines and had good meetings booked.

It works - if you have a good pitch and tonality on you.

If there's no pickup, I go through HQ number.

Direct line/cell is the best. I have some friends that get all anxious calling it but people are used to it. Occasionally you might get a fussy person saying "um this is my personal cell" and that person probably wouldn't have bought from you even if you called the office number anyway

Mobile > direct line > HQ.

Most people I work with don’t stay at their desk so calling their mobile is preferred.
