cold calling vs. Inbound strategy

If you hate cold calling can you still be in sales?

Are there companies that don't make you cold call, but instead allow for you to sell to warm leads (inquiries or demo request)???

You can absolutely be in sales and not cold call. You just have to have a strong marketing team. However, that's usually not the case

Love it! Thanks for the response. It's true, if marketing would just take feedback from the sales team the inbound strategy would be always be better.

Nobody in sales ENJOYS cold calling, so you can absolutely hate it and still be in sales. The question is whether you can do it in spite of hating it, and do it well.

Do these roles exist? Sure. Transactional sales, positions where you just upsell to existing clients, and higher level AEs but those people have put in their dues cold calling for years so they don't have to do it anymore.

If you're looking for a sales role where cold calling isn't required, you're likely not cut out for sales. Look into account management or customer success instead.

Spot on! Great response, and I totally agree. I did cold calling (smile and dial) for a couple years and hated it BUTTTTT I did it. The closed won from a cold call vs. warm lead is just a tad sweeter.

I thought this would be a question somebody new to sales might be wondering and enjoy the responses.

Thanks for your input.

That is false, funcoupons.  Cold calling is like doing drugs.  Sometimes it's cut with shit and you're gonna have a bad ride.....but you keep coming back because every now and then you get that pure, euphoric high and it makes everything worth it.  Just can't stop.

We do not cold call anymore, and it's actually based on data. Instead, we cold email and have really efficient nurture and inbound funnels that cook up great deal flow.

Only ever done outbound strategy with no inbounds, would be good to get some advice on how to handle it. Is it meant to be 50/50 or? Speaking from someone that is the only salesman in the company.

If you're the only salesman in the company I'd take a wild guess that you work for a new/small company and most people don't know about you, thus they don't inbound?

The split between inbounds and outbounds totally depends on the industry and company.

Inbound is always the way to go. Think about your own buying preferences.
