Cold email outreach is done?

Hey all,

2 years ago our business grew a lot due to a cold outreach strategy. However, over the last months, that strategy didn't work well for us: much lower reply and email to meeting rates.

Might just be anecdotal, but I've seen that happen recently in a few companies of friends.

What have you guys seen on your end?

It still works, you just need to get away from the templated emails. What are you currently doing/seeing and what industry are you in?

Yup. You need to have short, easy to read emails.

Seeing the same on our end, but to Askhole’s point, it’s forcing companies to be more specific and relevant in their outreach ie sifting out all the teams that have tendency to spray and pray with messaging.

The framework I see working now is creating persona based messaging. What are the top 3 problems the persona has (above the line and below the line). Also, forming a hypothesis based on research, putting that in front of the prospect, then asking to be corrected.

Example:

“Typically when I see a company have a great funding round, new reps, and new job openings that usually means A) you had some reps underperform and had to let them go or B) you have aggressive goals thanks to that new round you raised.

Am I completely off base here? / correct me if I’m wrong”

People respect that you had done the research and brought an assumption to the table, conversations start there.

I’ll add there’s been a growing need for using multi-channel: LinkedIn, call, email, text.

Make sure you’re using plain text emails.

Video is the least used still imo, b/c ppl are afraid it won’t scale. I think it works if done right.

Still key, but personalization and a multi-touch approach are necessary.

Bad emails are done. I still see a number of people get meetings with cold emails, they just have to be done well.

Additionally, make sure your technical settings are configured and that you aren't on any blacklists. Try using mail-tester.com to check

What could possibly be occurring the past few months? Summer + Heading into Holidays + Economic downturn.

Personally, I’ve been a huge drop this summer specifically. I was thinking it was seasonality and people not being as motivated in specific industries to take on new projects in what we were selling via cold email. Hopefully that’s what’s going on for the both of us these past few months

Definitely. My current company has only been in the region a couple of years. Previously the reps made their numbers off spamming awful sequences written by marketing. Now these don’t work and they don’t know how to prospect or use our sales tech stack properly, so they’re all struggling. Managers are mostly reps promoted due to results attained from the same garbage spam so they’re no help either.

Meanwhile I know how to do both from prior roles and I’m the only person in my team hitting quota, and also resigning next month due to how much of a shitshow things are.

Cold emails still work. People say the same thing about cold calling. Just change your approach

Remember it takes 65 exposures within about a month to generate recognition - just because 1:1 may not be demonstrating results there remains an argument that it is contributing to efforts.

BUT - as @antiASKHOLE mentioned check the content.

Personally, I think that it still works, only that the type of email should be corrected, make it more concise and less loaded with irrelevant information, go to the point and try to be original.
