Cold LinkedIn Messages

Hey, so this is something I've been receiving a lot of lately.
I'm curious because I have never tried this and I'm sure some people in this War Room have.

So my questions is, does it actually work? are you finding success by sending messages via LinkedIn? if you are, what would you say your ratio is of actually booking a meeting or a call?

It's like a cold email--make it relevant, make it short, and be specific with your ask.

For me it doesn't work much but I still leverage as combination of different outreach has always worked well (Call, Email, LinkedIn)

Yeah, additional tool in the tool belt. You have to be very direct with no wasted message in my opinion. Emails can be a bit longer etc, but the inmail needs to get right to the point.

Agreed, I refrain from sending inMail often but I do connect, follow prospects and their respective companies to see if there are structural changes happening and if that is relevant to me.

I don't really send cold messages on LI. I'll research on there, maybe pop a like or something on a prospect's post, if it's worthy of a like. Little things so that when they see my emails or hear my voicemail's they are somewhat familiar with who I am and slightly more likely to respond.

I never message prospects on LI, I use it to gather information only. I'm not vehemently opposed to it or anything, but I have a great email/phone call response rate so I've never seen a need.

One issue I can see coming up is just that a lot of non sales/marketing people rarely ever look at their LI unless they're actively job hunting. Especially the older a prospect is.

And those exact people may be the decision makers you're looking for.

If you do this make sure to write something tailored to each different prospect.

You mean you don't like receiving messages that begin like:

Hi BRAD

or even better

Good afternoon ({Name})

I have actually had a decent amount of success with it in a few of my jobs. About as much success as cold emails i guess

With the messages you sent, where they just a generic copy and paste message? Or did you customize it to each person?

It honestly depends. If it is the EXACT person I need to contact. I try to customize. If its a gatekeeper or someone who may know the right person it could be generic

I've had good success. I usually do this in addition to an email and first voicemail. Just another touch saying "hey look/listen to what I sent you". Also makes you look that much more human.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Depends on the prospect and how active they are on LinkedIn. Don’t pitch immediately either, try to ask thought provoking questions that relate to your product / discovery process

I have a lot of success on LI with cold messages but I don't necessarily dub them as cold.

I like to interact with someone's activity (or their company's) before ever messaging them. Typically when I message them, it's either after they post something and follow up on that post and it's in a video format.

From a YUUUUUGE sample size of (me), it hasn’t worked for shit. Get the digits, get your pitch right.

You need to make sure your target is THE GUY/GAL you need to be speaking to, I wouldn't go the shotgun approach with LinkedIn.

The ones that work for me are when I actually try to have a conversation first vs. just pitching in the first, second, or third message.

I have the same success rate as cold emails.  I agree with @poweredbycaffeine, if you make it relevant and valuable you will get a response.  And you literally have their profile in front of you so it isn't that hard.

60 percent of the time it works every time.

But really, I do pretty well on LinkedIn (I think... maybe not?) I send a few connection messages every day and book about 4/wk just from those.

I'm a cold caller at heart, & it took me a longggg time and a lot of bad outreach to figure it out, but I've been booking a ton of meetings via LinkedIn lately.

The key with LinkedIn is it's never one touch that books a meeting, & never send anything longer than text length.  & 95% of the time DON'T ask for time unless you've built a ton of rapport.  They're not stupid, they know why you're there.  I've had prospects ask me for a meeting solely because they thought it was refreshing that I didn't ask for time.

Cadence:
10-second video saying hello & thanking for a connection

Around the holidays I mass blast everyone's inbox with a "Happy xxxx!" It looks like I'm being nice but actually serves as a bump to my previous messages.  Gets a great response rate.

I find LinkedIn is another medium that can work.

I don't pay for premium so send invites to relevant people. Normally:

'Hi X Always looking to learn more about y (typically job role or description on LinkedIn). I hope you don't mind me adding you to my network.'  This works pretty well and people normally accept.

Once they do you can see what they post and then a few days after send a relevant 'Why you Why Now' message.

So for example:

"Hi X

Are you working on Z project?

Sounds similar to a project another council  is currently under way with. They were able to (include relevant outcome from case study).

Z customer have (explain briefly how they achieved the above).

Would it be worth speaking to see if you could do the same?"

This has resulted in people sending me their cell numbers to speak, or being ignored! Worth a go.
