Commission after resigning

hey y'all - I'm new to the horrible/awesome sales world.  I'm resigning from a BDR position this week to take an excellent inside sales rep position elsewhere.  

my question is: will I still get July's commission at the end of august?  apologies if this is a rookie question.  my management sucks and I'm afraid to ask them.

Read your comp plan. I resigned last month, and in my comp plan "any earned commission is paid out on the regular schedule" which means I will get my last check at the end of this month.

This is totally different for every company, so the only way to know for sure is what your comp plan says.

You can also ask your HR team, you will most likely be assigned someone to do your offboarding.

Agree with BigMeech. Except, every company I've ever left has had a clause that you 'must be employed by the company at the time commission is paid to be eligible under this plan' - So effectively forfeit upon departure.

If you have any incentive stock options or 401(k) match, also read the fine print carefully. Usually there's a vesting period required for any ISO's or any employer match on retirement accounts, and you will likely be forfeiting some portion of those comp pieces if you have them also.

Yup, 100% comp plan and HR. Good luck. I left at at the first week of 2020 and was able to get my accelerators bonus because I "stayed the whole year". It was sneaky for me but it worked. haha

Likely not, also don’t expect a transition period. when I gave 2 weeks notices at both my BDR roles they let me go immediately

My company does this too, but they will pay you on anything low funnel that comes in over those 2 weeks. So it's like a little paid vacation.

This is different for every org. Better to dive into the comp plan and see what’s written. 

My advice would typically be stay until you get the last big portion of commission and then bounce.

Even if your contract doesnt say so, they would give you what you’re owed if they want to leave on good terms with you. I’ve seen both, but definitely look over comp plan/speak with HR

that depends mate, some companies don't, the ones i've been don't, but maybe yours do, i suggest u to speak first with your sup to see what answers they give or check your contract if you have it

You should get paid out on anything you've done at the company. That includes commission and earned PTO. If you have direct deposit set up, then you should get a commission only check that lines up with the company pay cycle. When I resigned from my last position, I had 3 months of additional commission checks coming in since that's how we were paid out.

Definitely varies by company. I spent a little time in recruiting and we always used to say that any good sales person leaves something on the table - sometimes it's a deal that hasn't quite closed yet, other times it commission, etc.

Legally they owe you the money. Find out or you will get fucked over. I had to threaten the last place I left that I was going to contact the Dept. of Labor to get my money.

Okay y’all we have an update! I successfully resigned today - my manager was bummed since I’m his top performer and have been for more than a year. Commission earned before my final day (7/27) will be paid out at the end of august. You all are excellent. Thank you!! Onward and upward.

Insigned a deal at my previous gig. And normally they would not pay me because I needed to be employed by them for the commission. 

When I asked where my payment was the VP just approved it.

Yes you should get paid out for all your commission you earned, I would ask as this is important and if I were you I would want the money that I earned.
