Commission level and ave sales per year

I’m curious to know what the commission ranges are in your industry and what a normal top-to-mid level producer sells per year?

I’ll go first...commission on new ranges from 9-20% on new biz, 2.5-5% for ongoing business after year 1. No accelerators based on total sold or size of book.

Commission in my industry ranges from 3-5%, with no distinction between new logo/renewal.  Our commission % are weighted based on growth at the account level of the previous year.

Wow that's interesting to read about no distinction between new biz/renewals.

15-30% on new, 7-10% on renewal. Average billing is 700k-1.2M, Top producers doing 2M+ annually.
High commissions but no base. 100% comm. You sell or you starve.

45-52% of first year’s annual premium for insurance products, investments based on AUM grid rate.

Their is an enormous gulf between the average and the top in terms of production and commissions.

Forgot the average annual sales part...it’s between $700K-2m for the top 20% of the sales team

Commission for new biz is 6-10%. Quota's range from $750k-$1m. I'd say people achieve ~80%. We do have accelerators if you sell over 100% of your quota in a quarter you get an extra 6% on any deal you sell for the remainder of that quarter. If you achieve annual quota you get a flat $25k bonus. This has only been done once in the 3 years I have worked there.

Thats interesting! How big is your company? Age, ARR, sales team size?
I'd be interested to understand at what stages companies still continue to offer such aggressive comp plans.

Company is ~10 years old, just over 100 people, sales (AE) team is 13 people. ARR ~30mil for new buiz (AE only).

Is this rare for companies to offer commission plans like this?

This makes a lot of sense. No, I don't think its rare for companies to offer such commission plans but as your team becomes bigger and you start reaching close to $100M ARR, you'll see some of these milestone bonuses go away.
Some companies continue to offer such comp plans but offer less equity to sales reps.

Appreciate the insight! This is very helpful to know and understand. I haven't worked at any of the larger companies yet so I will keep soaking this up for now haha

Thanks for the insight.  That accelerator is really nice.  Our quote is $750k for senior (which means 4+ years with firm).  Most hit between $450-600k, top 20 goes from $750k-3 or 4m depending on the year.
