Commission only sales?! Should I? Companies that do this? Sucessfull? Profitable? (HELP)

So some guy approached me that he was looking into getting a company that does commission only sales for him, he is in telehealth, so I said I would put the word out, he is a CEO and wants to make more sales.

If you know something like that comment below, please

Also have you heard of anyone doing commission-only sales? my friend sells construction contracts, just gets leads, goes to the site, and closes it in one meeting, he made 160k last year, and its his first year in sales, what do you think about that?

Good stories? Bad stories? WAR stories?

My first thought with commission-only places is EEK, but that's just me maybe.

Whats your 2 cents?

have you ever done commission only sales?

I've been approached several times but never made the jump.  I like having something to fall back on in case of a bad month.

It's not for everyone, but the people who are the right fit can make serious bank. I would not recommend this route if you don't have several months of living expenses saved up that you could draw from on slow months. You need to be confident in your skills and believe in the product as well, so would also not recommend for newbies or as a "I guess I'll try it" kind of job either.

Would recommend giving it a go for someone who's financially stable, is confident in their ability to sell, and is passionate about the company/product.

Personally, I’d never do it. All of my living costs (mortgage, cars, food, utilities, clothes, etc) are financed/paid by my base. Commissions are for everything else (saving, investing, spending on extras). I’d never take a risk like commission only. What happens if you go 2 months with a slump? Or more? No thanks, don’t need that noise.

I think take it only if you have a safety net and you are confident in yourself and the product/company you will be associated with. Most people in real estate sales are working commission only.

Speaking of car dealerships, this guy who sold me my car said he makes 12k a month at his performance rate, which is 2x of his peers

When times were good, I made great money in car sales 100% commission. Best single month was 22,000 but for a few years I was averaging 12k. When times are bad it's awful.

Increased % on commish, but commish only, may not be the right approach ; motivation levels for the sales person will fade out quick with more objections that follow through
