Commission situation - Am I getting screwed over?

Last day of July I was at 90%… I hustled my ass off and hit 100% at 3pm on Friday. I spent the remainder of the day doing EOM admin tasks. Salesforce showed me at 100%. A few weeks later I get my commission statement, and it also shows me at 100%. HOWEVER, I notice my payout is about $4000 too short. I ask my manager to look into it and he comes back and says the finance team actually had me at 99.65% and I was $27 away from hitting 100%. So instead of being paid out at the 100%+ commission tier, I got paid out at the <100% tier. Here’s my problem- all our systems showed me at 100% so I stopped selling for the day to clean my pipeline etc. If I would have known that “100%” wasn’t really 100% I would have kept looking for the remaining $27. Am I wrong in thinking this is BS? They’ve now updated Salesforce to show decimals instead of rounding, but I feel like I kind of got screwed over. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Give them 27$ and ask them for 4,000$ in return

I’d honestly ask for a meeting with manager and finance team. If they are holding that much from you over $27 and essentially system rounding errors I’d ask what could be done now and to prevent this in the future. Very fair ask and conversation.

I'd add that I'd hope they make you whole this time, while you've learned not to trust SFDC rounding errors for next time.  I mean, $27?  Sorry this happened.

Damn I would be looking for a new company if they pulled that shit.

You got shafted, but my guess is that they won’t change and make you whole. Do you have screenshots of the 100%? Show that to management.

Yes I have screenshots of both Salesforce (before they changed it to show decimals and not rounding) and also on my commission statement

I would take that to management and ask them to go to bat with finance. My assumption is that they will tell you something about how you “shouldn’t stop selling even at 100%” which isn’t the point. Stay strong and good luck!

On your end, did you verify (to the cent) that you were 100%+? And are corrections made by finance like this a known process?

That situation really sucks and I'm sorry you're dealing with this.. In my first sales jobs, our salesforce numbers were always corrected with "Actuals" to reflect what was actually billed vs what we had in salesforce (It was ad-tech, so numbers entered in salesforce were always accurate estimates, but never exact.

No and I think that’s what might be the nail in the coffin. I saw 100% and assumed it was actually 100%, I didn’t do the math to verify the numbers.

If your company doesn't payout and admit their fault then that is ridiculous. I do think it is only a tiny bit on you for not doing the math, but if they are going by the % in salesforce (which should be the same percentage that you see) then you should be paid in my opinion.
If they don't payout, it shows they don't go to bat for you and probably don't value you as much as they should.
Definitely have a meeting about this. I'm sure if they had to replace you it would cost them more than $4,000 to do so.

I dont think its that simple, sure the job market is hard but starting over in a new role doesn't immediately guarantee the same performance and income. Sure it would cost the company more than $4000 to replace, but the cost of switching for Queen Bee isnt that straightforward either.

This situation sucks and I feel for you, but at the end of the day the structure is for 100% and its on the AE to make sure they hit the full 100%. It sucks a ton and its worth a conversation but I wouldn't expect anyone to change anything.

Good points 👍🏻. I do agree about each rep should know their exact numbers. At the very least having this conversation will ensure that it hopefully does not happen again.

You absolutely got screwed over!  I would be furious!  I'm sure you have heard that you are never safe to stop selling until you receive your payout but in this case, I would have done the exact same thing as you!

As some have mentioned, any screenshots will be a great asset to you but also don't expect them to take care of you because their are two types of companies, the ones that make things right and the ones who don't give a shit.  You will quickly learn which one you work for.  Our company had this happen by an amount less that $50 and they gave him the 100% tier anyways because that is what good companies do.

Sorry you are going through this and good luck!

That is not chill. Will they change it? Probably not. Good lesson going forward as much as it hurts.

If they do not make it right and that is the company culture, I would find another place to put my effort.
