Find comparable startups/competitors and look on Glassdoor/RepVue to understand what they might be making.
VP roles are hard because variable can be cut so many different ways. Could be overall revenue growth, team growth, a standard percentage of monthly/quarterly goal attainment, etc.ย

Repvue. Yo Ryan I should get some kind of love for how often I guide folks to your site. Just sayin ๐ฆ
Also agree with Glassdoor! I've never used RepVue from the other comments but def going to check that out.
With looking at comp though, you'll probably have to take location into consideration depending on where the job is. When I started the role I'm in now, it was completely remote & I tried negotiating for a higher salary, but they said my given salary was in line with other positions in that geographical area. Other companies are cooler though & might pay you the same regardless of where you areย

Id think base for VP would be 150-200. My buddy base is 170 for a 5 year old saas company. Honestly, 200 is where i think it should be.

VP of Sales
Depends on a variety of factors, but $175-$225 base plus variable commission, plus sometimes equity if itโs an early stage start up

I asked our founders this a year or two ago so that I could have realistic goals if I wanted to go the leadership route and become a VP years down the road. They told me around $250k base + $250k variable OTE and 1.5% of the company in options.
We were Series A at the time, in San Francisco, and my company is known for paying sales very well.

80 - 150k. Mostly variable commission. Was VP of Sales. Base was 30k. Made about 130k per year. Focus was on helping the team sell & company growth. Happy to chat with out if you'd like.
