Company got acquired…

The company I am with was recently acquired. A few folks were laid off but the ones still around were promised their jobs and not too much drastic change. Curious if anyone has experience being in an AE role when their company was bought out? Any advice you have on navigating the transition? Should I start looking elsewhere now?

Do everything you can to hit your number. Also take great notes in your crm to show activity. No matter what your relationship is with your direct manager, they will be reporting into a new structure. The better they know your deals the better you look.

Why would you look for a new job before you even know what is going to happen at your current job?

I've been in a couple mergers and an acquisition. My experience has been that nothing that impacts an AE's job happens right away. Continue doing your job, do the best you can, and make notes about your achievements for your own record.

It's possible that things will be even better for you, or they may change and you'll be asked to do something different. You can make decisions along the way regarding whether the direction things are going is suitable for you, but there's no reason to leave until you have a compelling reason to do so.

Mostly, don't worry too much about things that are out of your control. Don't take any rash actions, and control what you can - which is your own performance.

Culture is gonna suck, changes are gonna take place, managers and coworkers may leave.

CYA with activity and figure out new hierarchy

Worrying about the things outside of your control will be detrimental. you really have 2 options.

- Believe management that your jobs are safe and to keep working like all things are normal

- Don't believe them and start looking elsewhere

Aside from that don't stress yourself about the noise. Blinders and clarity are beautiful things.

I haven't been in this position, but my old company was the buyer of a couple companies while I was there. Over half the people they didnt let go originally were let go within 6 months. Id update your resume and start at least casually looking for something new.

Depends right what the other company does and what synergy it brings. The company I work for was recently bought out; there was a synergy for product extension. As @1nbatopshotfanmentioned you got to hit your numbers - that’s the core. In my org, a few people were laid off, some from AE was transitioned to AM, they created a new team to take care of SMB existing business etc etc. I won’t start looking unless I know the mass layoff is in their pipeline.

this has happened to me and the best thing you can do is just focus on your job.

most of the time, nothing will change that directly impacts your day to day for a few months.

So try not to worry about all the things you cant control and just focus on you job.

i would not start looking for a new job JUST because you got acquired.

Lol my company was bought out by private equity 2.5 years ago and it’s been a rollercoaster since, but overall there’s definitely more opportunity/resources.

We’ve reorganized several times and just finished our third annual bloodbath of mass firings as they try & figure out what works best.

The hardest part was definitely the first 6 months with a ton of people quitting, culture went through a bit of a dip for a while, but now morale is up again and were doing much better as an org. There's also much more $ floating around for both salaries & client entertainment.

stick it out & see what happens

Stay the course, continue to do your job 100%. Don't concern yourself with anyone else's issues or worries. It's too easy to get caught up in someone else's nonsense.
